Doesn't bother me the squiggles.. I ignore them but don't have the other feature Paula has where it gives a brief definition of the word when you place the cursor over it.

Is that on IE10 Errol?

Persie personified.

I get cross when it underlines a word because it is not the American spelling eg favorite instead of favourite.

I don't want to spell my words the American way.....thank you very much ;-)

I've just managed to turn it off on Google Chrome :-)

If you right click after a mis-spelled word you get a menu which has 'spell checker options' , click on that and you can either make sure you have 'English UK' rather than 'US' if you want it or by clicking on "check the spelling of text fields" it removes the tick and turns off the spell check :-D

I don't either Cyns so I don't spell them that way.

It absolutely hates the word Feilding (a place in NZ) ... which is undersquiggled now along with under squiggled because it wants it as two words and not one...

Aroha Nui but of course that one gets underlined and so does Tangata whenua but that's what I am.

Persie and it underlines my name all the time.

Cynthia - try checking which language you have set up for both computer/keyboard and Internet Explorer.

Persephone - did you mean, were the instructions for IE10?

Does any one get a centigrade/Fahrenheit conversion if they hold the mouse over a temperature? eg 10c , I get a little Google icon and "10c = 50f" . There is an option to disable, though. I have also noticed autocorrect sometimes (ie if I spell something wrongly, it is automatically corrected.

When I had my predictive text option switched on my Ipad ...

I seem to recall all my FB friends spent hours looking all up the new words Ipad predicted :-S :-S :-S

Percie ........
So is you Tangata Whenuan now .....
and not a Papua New Guinean anymore ........

All these name changes confuses ..... but fools no one ......

Potty,
I get the same because I have downloaded Google toolbar to work within Explorer bar.

I am ok with the spell check on my home office, as I don't put it on auto, just use it if I feel I need to check a spelling. I have been out for a couple of hours and just switched my PC on, the underscore red line on my GR page seems to have disappeare. How very strange!

EDIT It is now back on, but only on this site.

Cynthia,
I too get a little "cross" , keeps putting Z`s in some words when I know they should be S`s..... also irritates me when it wants me to put capitals at the beginning of probable name words :-|
:-D :-D

Mayfield Report 10 Jul 2013 16:56

Hi sorry if I'm being a bit thick, is there a spellchecker for this site?
As a rule if I have a longish post I do it in word, use that spellcheck and paste here.

Mayfield.
A simple lad!

Thank you for the link BudgieRustler I will take a look at it , I find using word and pasting works fine for me, but I was really just wondering if I was missing something on the Genes site ;-)

CupCakes Report 10 Jul 2013 17:59

Mayfield - you have slightly misunderstood.

You are typing in Word first then copying to the GR threads.

Many members don't bother and just type directly in the box. It was a problem for bad spellers but now there is a type of spell check which as Errol explained 10 Jul 2013 12:54, depends on your browser. You need to reread page 1

If you type a message directly in the box spelling errors show up with a red squiggly line underneath.
Right click on your mouse and it will give you some spelling correction options

Hope that is clear
;-)
