( other than facebook / twitter) that you find interesting and pleasant to be on?

I'm thinking of suggesting my elderly friend gets a PC so she can have some 'company', and wondered where people chat other than here that is 'safe' lol :-D

Rambling Report 9 Jun 2012 19:47

lol BC, I think Saga is a bit too ....what's the word...? Scarey!

Errol that is part of the problem, there are only a limited number of people that she knows and calls...and to be honest there are only so many conversations you can have with the same people in a week ( in this case anyway) she is needing to look 'outward' a bit more if you understand me...different input in her life I suppose is what I'm getting at :-D

I think the URL is www.aarp.org
not sure if there is a chat part of the website but there are pleny of links for like minded people

Rambling Report 9 Jun 2012 19:58

Hi Jude, she's become more housebound of late so her world has 'closed in' a bit, but generally speaking she is interested in pets and people, and psychic stuff, feng shui and clairvoyance...and the soaps! here would be good for some of the gentler topics but I am not sure she could cope with some of the more 'robust' threads lol.

In that case Rose I thoroughly recommend AARP

eRRolSheep Report 9 Jun 2012 20:30

Jude I am not sure but if you want I will research it in the morning - I think it is purely American but good nevertheless

i think the thing is, even place's like this, a family history site that should be "safe" has its fair share of "unsavioury" people lol

Depending where your friend lives or originates from Rose.

I'm a member of a Lancashire site that has connections to where I lived when I was very young, and it's interesting reading about the area I once lived in.
I had an email from someone on the site who had put on a picture of the nursing home where I was born. I was thrilled as I never dreamt I'd ever see a picture of it.

Perhaps your friend has memories of where she grew up and went to school?could possibly be a connection to an old pal...she should give it a go. :-D xx

eRRolSheep Report 9 Jun 2012 20:39

unsavioury (sic) or not there are some great places for silver surfers and the choice is their's - not having a go stray - just think it should be made easier for older people and it really annoys me that they get frightened off

Thanks Joy :-D

Mau, She lives on the Wirral, and has always lived in the general area I think, that's a good idea I will look into it.

I think I will have to visit and work on the idea of Dan fixing up a computer for her and go from there :-D
