I am 76, and I enjoy chatting on here and on FB. I also have put a lot of photos on blogspots, but you need to get her photos on her computer first. If somebody has a scanner and can scan some for her, onto a DVD or memory stick, so she can put them on a computer if she gets one, then she can share them if she finds a website that interests her. She might need help though to understand how to use the computer. Some elderly people (did I say elderly? I'm not elderly!) have trouble understanding computers. I am lucky I am reasonably technical-minded.

Huia.

Thanks Rose not soo old then ...in my eyes :-) and I'm sure she'll be fine on a site where perhaps there'll be images that will appeal to her and places she most likely will recall :-D

Good luck to your friend once she gets started there'll be no stopping! lol xx

Sorry got waylaid there lol, thanks for all suggestions

Mau she is 76, I've found quite a good Wirral one that might be interesting to her, it will take a bit of persuasion I think to get her to do this.

RR have you thought about contacting the local AgeConcern they may be able to recommend something more local and not just for OAPs.

Another good source is the local Library or History Archives where there may be notice boards for local groups which may also have websites.

Worth a try.

MSE Rose .. but you know that..
It can be a bit harsh at times but when the chips are down there is nowhere better to find people who are willing to help you.

Thanks Joy :-D

Mau, She lives on the Wirral, and has always lived in the general area I think, that's a good idea I will look into it.

I think I will have to visit and work on the idea of Dan fixing up a computer for her and go from there :-D

unsavioury (sic) or not there are some great places for silver surfers and the choice is their's - not having a go stray - just think it should be made easier for older people and it really annoys me that they get frightened off

Mauatthecoast

Mauatthecoast Report 9 Jun 2012 20:38

Depending where your friend lives or originates from Rose.

I'm a member of a Lancashire site that has connections to where I lived when I was very young, and it's interesting reading about the area I once lived in.
I had an email from someone on the site who had put on a picture of the nursing home where I was born. I was thrilled as I never dreamt I'd ever see a picture of it.

Perhaps your friend has memories of where she grew up and went to school?could possibly be a connection to an old pal...she should give it a go. :-D xx

i think the thing is, even place's like this, a family history site that should be "safe" has its fair share of "unsavioury" people lol
