Annina Report 3 Sep 2011 12:34

I can't imagine life without my three, they are the best friends I have.

I love all animals, but after our last dog died of old age,we decided not to take in another one,as they are so tying. Cats do not need taking a walk,do not demand amusing 24/7,don't chew op the furniture and bark at every strange sound.

Mind you, they do tend to dig up my newly planted flowers to create a latrine! ;-) <3 <3 <3 <3

I've always had a cat. Had a break of about 8 yrs when first married as we lived in a flat,so i left my cat with my Mum.
Soon as we moved to a house with a garden I got another kitten,he sadly died,he had a fight with a car and the car won;((.
Then I got another one,had him15 yrs till i had to have him put to sleep.
Now I've got the little madam in the photo...she is a house cat and is well trained, and loved by all the family.

I think its good for the grandkids as they arent allowed pets of their own. Their Dads would have a cat in a minute but not their Mums lol.

Thanks Merlin.
She needs a bit of brushing now and again as she is quite long haired.
Cant say i like the furballs but apart from thats she lovely.
She used to run and get her toy mouse and bring it to you to throw, she would then bring it back. Seems to have grown out of that now.

Two things that turn a house into a home = A Cat and a Teapot.
I had a mug given to me years ago with this on the side.

Our present one is a longhaired tortoiseshell, very dark, and she plays merry hell with the back of the setteee! She also likes a glittery toffee paper to play with, but is gettin gpast that now, but she still has a fair turn of speed when she comes out of her cat tray! I would like to get a stop watch on her.
We have another, very pretty black and white semi domesticated feral female which the Cats protection neutered for us. They also took her five kittens and rehomed them. Lizzie wont tolerate her in her part of the house, though.

Mayfield

Mayfield Report 3 Sep 2011 18:02

Seeing your remark about clawing the settee Jean reminded me of something that might help other owners with claw sharpening cats.

Our cat George use to decimate the bottom stair, no amount of deterrent spray seemed to work. After a few days he was back again, we spent a fortune on "kitty scratching posts" to no avail.

When we moved the last owner had left an old coir (coconut matting) door mat behind. George was in heaven, he could stand on it and really get stuck into a serious bit of scratching.

We bought a new one and tentatively put it down and yes he liked it just as much as the old one, result cat and stair carpet happy!

Regards,
Mayfield.

We will have to try that. My OH stapled sandpaper on the corners at the back of the settee and she left them alone, only to start further along and underneath. She also swops sleeping places from chair to chair, usually the one you were going to sit on! Wont use a bed except ours!

My cat PUDDING has just discovered that the bed makes an excellent springboard with me in it at 2 a.m. <3

Lizzigoes to bed most nights before we do and we have to adjust ourselves around her! She will often wait for me when i get up at night and then escort me back to bed, she likes to keep tabs on her flock.

I love this thread, we used to have three cats but they left us one by one of old age. Knowing we had our name down for sheltered housing we didn't replace them but got a cockateil instead, I can't do without a pet we have had cats since before I can remember. Our big fluffy persian used to bring birds in but always unhurt and let them go, one Christmas day we spent ages trying to catch a Robin to get it out.

Dont like not having a dog, but cant execise myself, let alone a dog. But a house doesnt feel like home without at least one cat in it! Even if all they do is sleep! Lizzie has about five mins play , thats all, she is twelve and had been poorly treated before we had her 4 years ago.

Countrymouse Report 5 Sep 2011 11:02

We have the cat but not the teapot! When our kitten was killed by a car we had one night before deciding it was not a home without a cat. Next day we collected our present puss; a burmese tabby cross who was unwanted. Very wanted by us tho'.

Sharron Report 5 Sep 2011 11:57

Clawing the sofa seems to be their way of shouting"OI YOU!".

We visited a friends family who lived in a gorgeous, immaculate big house with three cats and a sofa with the stuffing hanging out the arm!

Merlin Report 5 Sep 2011 14:38

Sharron, surely you mean you visited three cats who let your friends have accomodation with them on the understanding they were there to serve their every need.**M** :-D :-D :-D

~`*`Jude`*`~ Report 5 Sep 2011 14:43

We had our first cat when married in 1971, she was grey and white called Sonny, (sometimes soddy sonny..lol) beautiful, she came with us when we moved and when l was pregnant with our first child she disapeared:(((
We then had a ginger persian called Bertie, again very handsome:)

We then had a black (with bits of white) kitten called Smudge (smudge of white on tip of tail) for our son, she was so gentle and lived till 16yrs, soon after we had her we also got Jimmy, he was such a character. He belonged to sons friend and was'nt well looked after, when he first walked into the lounge he jumped up on the sofa and sort of flung himself down but landed too near the edge and fell off....his street cred went straight out the door...lol
Soon after a russian blue (not sure if he was pedigree though) turned up in back garden, sadly he only had 3 legs. He kept coming round and eventually we fed him and took him to the vets as his stump was in a bad staight. We eventually found the owner too who said we could keep him. We called him Bounce and he lived till he was 16....he was such fun. All three got on so well....and l miss them all:((((
