Gwen, it breaks my heart - they have no pride in their country or compassion for their fellow men and women.

Such aggression, such greed - where does it come from?

Nothing is broken completely if there is still hope...and from what I have seen on tv it seems an awful lot of people are disgusted by the riots and what these people have done.

I wish all teh rioters could just be scooped up and sorted out, alas isuppose we have to wait and see what will happen next

Fingers crossed it does not get any worse or continues on

Wonderful publicity for the Olympics.
Spoke to a friend in Birmingham last night. Although she doesn´t live in the affected area, she lives very close & works in the City Centre.
She said that there had clearly been trouble on Monday night, which was evident from the damage to business premises & that the staff had been sent home early yesterday as a precaution, but that generally speaking, the riots hadn´t spread beyond the city centre & Handsworth.
I remember the Handsworth riots of 30 years ago & it makes me so sad to see my home city in such turmoil. It may not be the most beautiful city in the world, but it is home to so many good people.

Although no consolation for those who live close to the areas involved, it is important to remember that this is a small percentage of the whole of the population, it is NOT representative of the country as a whole. And anybody with any sense in other countries will realise that. Just as we realised that the mayhem in Ireland did not represent that country as a whole. We still have a beautiful country and if we don't believe that ourselves, then we certainly are lost.

Well done to the community who all pulled together to clean up their area. THAT is what our country is about. Not the thieving toe-rags who are only intent on helping themselves to what they want and see as their due

They are enjoying the "oxygen of publicity" (as long as you cannot see their faces !) perhaps if that was withdrawn things would quieten down, although how do you deal with the excitable journalists who dash from place to place

Its is so very sad Dizzi, but as Ann says it is still a beautiful country:)
Remember they are the minority and the majority want it to stop!!
People are trying to get together and clean up:)

Its disgusting they way they are acting.
No respect for anyone or anything.

This country doesnt have enough jobs and money as it it without idiots wrecking the place and causing even more problems.

I also think that anyone who has been allowed into this country should be sent back home if they break the law..I dont mean just the recent troubles.

BROKEN
OUR COUNTRY
OUR PEOPLE
OUR LIVES
AND THIS HAS BEEN DONE
NOT BY TERRORISOM
BUT BY OUR OWN KIND .....
Well our Government sold/cut some of our forces, Cut some of our Police service, Cut & closed Hospitals, Schools & other council services, Taxed us all to the hilt, What did they expect? As far as I can see they only have themselves to blame. Some people have lost homes, Jobs etc. That said the people that are doing the looting etc should be ashamed & if they think they are big enough to do it then they are big enough to take the punishment they will get. The harsher the better.

I dont give a toss about the background or the why's or wherefore's of the scum who caused all this mayhem - I just want them to be caught and strung up by the wotsits with piano wire.

It is upsetting to think about all those people who have lost their homes and businesses. Those poor people who found themselves out on the street in nothing but their jim jams - I can't even begin to imagine how devastated they must feel, left with absolutely nothing. Everything they owned disappeared in a night.

And what about all those beautiful old buildings which have been trashed and burned to such an extent that they now have to be demolished....we will never see those again, EVER. They cannot and/or will not be rebuilt like that.
Parts of our history, our heritage, gone because mindless morons wanted a bit of fun.

I know it doesn't make it right, but right now I feel I would like to go to their houses and burn the lot, destroy everything they own, right in front of their eyes, so that they know what it feels like.

Just as a matter of interest, does anybody know what it´s all about?
I´m aware that the police shot a man dead in Tottenham last week, but what has that got to do with the rest of London, or the rest of the country.
Seems to me it´s just given the thugs an opportunity to make hay while the sun shines.

from my post on riots in london thread

I see the courts are already handing down harsh sentences ( falls on floor laughing my head off )

19 year old gets 1 day in prison for robbing store of 2 tea shirts, but released because he has been in custody for more than 24 hours

so the fact he only manages to get away with 2 items makes it not a serious offence then

they the authorities are having a laugh

so yes the thugs have obviously BROKEN the authorities

Look at this brave woman, glad she wasn't attacked and maybe, just maybe she made one or two of them think twice.

The mother of one thug defended him against a man who said they were doing wrong, it's because they can't find jobs and have nothing to do said the mother! With a parent like that, what hope is there?
