Cheer up, Dizzi - it ain't that bad. The riots have been awful but there's been a lot of positive stuff coming from it. Try seeing your glass half full instead of half empty.

Dizzi I totally disagree on a few points firstly annoyed as I am over the riots, and the thugs (not terrorist just plain stupid thick theiving thugs) I am certainly not broken neither is my life and certainly it won't break this lovely country of ours.

Regarding the Cuts that have to be made, they have to be or The Country goes (If not Already) Bankrupt. Remember what the Message was from the previous Chancellor to the Incoming one?. All the Money has Gone, Good Luck. And we really need it.The EU is on the way out with Countries almost broke getting Bailouts,How much longer can it last.Just hope we don,t fall by the wayside because of it. :-S.**M**

No, this isn't a broken country, I bit battered and chipped around the edges, but nothing that can't be made right.

What is encouraging is how the rest of society, that is to say the larger part, from all races, creeds, backgrounds, have all pulled together to put it right. Our blitz mentality is still alive and well I'm happy to say.

As for the background, reasons etc. All sorts of excuses have come out, but they are just that, excuses. As I said on another thread, just now in Westminster Magistrates is a 2nd year law student. Yesterday a youth worker, a teacher, a student nurse. These are NOT deprived people. These are NOT people without a voice. Their families were in the court with them sobbing...so these are NOT without their loving families. It is nothing less than criminality, they did it becasue they could.

EDIT: to add, this is NOT representative of the majority of people of that age range, and all teens should NOT be labelled the same, this is a very small minority of idiots, many of whom are apparently ashamed of what they ahve done now, and so they should be.

Rita
You indicate in your words I condone whats going on. I Dont
You have heard/seen things on TV. Thats good
Why do you think some people have lost Jobs, homes?
Why is there nothing for certain genarations to do? I don't just mean the kids as adults are doing this too.

You say... If this country is so bad and they are so badly off and emigrated here. why dont they go back home.because the way the speak they not well off in this country.infact they feel hard doneby. we welcome those who come and fit in with our Country. but we dont need the likes of those who walk around preaching how hard done by they are.
I say... Comment like this don't help matters.
One thing most of us agree on is what they are doing is wrong, What people jump to is saying just like you did. It's greed evil etc. While I partly agree, I have to ask myself Why? How did the people of this great country of our's get in this mess. A lot will agree that the many cuts that have been made just anger the people, At some point the people will say Enough is enough.

The country isn't broken as long as we have people like Tariq Jahan living here.

What a brave and inspiring man.

I thought the sentencing that the judges might give would be a bit harsher to set as a warning to others...but if that is an example what is the point of wasting the police and the courts and the public money to prosecute them.

I don't live there so I cannot comment about immigration etc, I agree with Roy's comment though, the colour skin you take does not automatically mean you can be put into a box. We too however are facing lots of similiar issues, not much point in helping people to immigrate if you just simply do not have the resources, infrastructure, jobs etc to help them become productive member's of society.

I think people make a choice how to act...and yes they are going along with the mob, but they are making concious decisions to do wrong.

What a mess...

Look at this brave woman, glad she wasn't attacked and maybe, just maybe she made one or two of them think twice.

The mother of one thug defended him against a man who said they were doing wrong, it's because they can't find jobs and have nothing to do said the mother! With a parent like that, what hope is there?

from my post on riots in london thread

I see the courts are already handing down harsh sentences ( falls on floor laughing my head off )

19 year old gets 1 day in prison for robbing store of 2 tea shirts, but released because he has been in custody for more than 24 hours

so the fact he only manages to get away with 2 items makes it not a serious offence then

they the authorities are having a laugh

so yes the thugs have obviously BROKEN the authorities

Just as a matter of interest, does anybody know what it´s all about?
I´m aware that the police shot a man dead in Tottenham last week, but what has that got to do with the rest of London, or the rest of the country.
Seems to me it´s just given the thugs an opportunity to make hay while the sun shines.
