This morning I thought I'd check on my drug regime and redo my schedule. I can never remember which I have taken, it's an age thing.

I thought I would double check the times between meds and came across this post:

I use an on line resource so I can leave the required number of hours between possible negative effects. It's only that I tinker (yes, doctor does know) each week with different combinations.

Himself hasn't tried hitting me around the head with a heavy object yet :-))

Sue, I have to produce identification if I am prescribed it... although it doesn't actually agree with me, just makes me high as a kite so I don't mind the hurty bits, lol.

I could take one or two at a time (50mgs per tablet) but a maximum of 300mgs in a day. So I would be away with the fairies with 100mgs (which came closer to killing the pain) but had to wait hours afterwards until it was time to take any mor.

I now have Oxycodone... still have to produce ID, lol but it does knock the pain a bit better.

Apparently they are all used quite a lot as recreational drugs.

It never occurred to me that Tramadol would be used like that...lol what a sheltered life I lead.

I take 100 mgs then bog standard paracetemol. BUT I have to fit them in between the other meds.

The heavy object sounds like a good idea today, and it'll keep me quiet for a bit...lol

Think about it though. How many famous people have been addicted to prescription painkillers, Robbie Williams, Michael Jackson among them. So I'm not surprised that some are using them recreationally.

Personally I think it's appalling that they are doing that, and probably duping their doctors into prescribing them in the first place, when others like Sue and Daff really do need them.

TW I have been reading more posts, people in the UK asking where they can order morphine based drugs on line?

I have 100+ Tramadol and 150+ boring Co-codamol if anyone wants to make an offer....JOKE!!!!!!!

Seriously trawling around this morning it has shocked me how many people are looking for meds without seeing their GP.

TW I try very hard not to use them, as I am spaced out whilst doing so... the Oxycodone are similar, but not quite so *spacy* although they do lift the mood a bit.

Other than alcohol and cigs in the long distant past (the cigs, not the alcohol, had some of that last week, lol) I have never taken any drug recreationally, so it does seem strange to me as well. Elizabeth Taylor was addicted too, and Liza Minnelli.. and I dread being the same, so only take them as a last resort. When I am needing to take them most days, then we know that it is time for the cortisone again. I am heading that way at the moment. I am fortunate, as steroids will work for me for a while, and that gives me a nice break. I also have good and bad days... days when I only need Paramol or paracetamol, so it is not unremitting, as with Sue's. On the days when it is *niggling* I can cope really well.

Sue, how do you remember all yours? When I am on the big guns, I can't remember my own name, leave alone anything else! R phones me from work to tell me.... now how sad is that?

Daff I don't...lmao that's why I have redrawn my schedule today.

It's my NSAIDS and bloomin' Cipralex I have to watch. The Cipralex was prescribed during my breakdown but had the bonus of stopping my blood pressure crashing so often :-) So I only take a management dose now which means I get less episodes of hemiplegic migraine :-))

I'll often NOT take any analgesia just to see if there is any improvement in the pain (I live in hope).

My other meds I just shovel down at night quite happily.

Strange thing is, when in hospital they just chuck loads of meds at you which I wouldn't have thought would have been taken together.

I have a pill organiser for my OH's pills, as he's on 11 different sorts every day, and he has no idea what he's taking or when. Some are once a day, some twice, some three times, some varying amounts at different times of day. I have them all listed on a postcard, and how many under breakfast, lunch, and dinner, though he takes them a breakfast, tea and bed lol.

I could give him any amount of anything, he wouldn't know LOL.

I used to have to take dihydrocodeine, and refused to take them unless a) the pain got too bad for anything else (usually paracetamol and ibuprofen together) to touch it, and b) if I needed some sleep, because they would knock me out, and afford me at least three hours of sound sleep. I was told to take them in hospital, but managed on paracetamol only, I was not going to take them without being desperate.

So why anyone would want to deliberately get themselves hooked on painkillers for the sake of a temporary high is beyond me.

Sue, as a matter of curiosity, my GP took OH off his ibuprofen and put him on cocodamol, which don't really help. He also said that when my other hip gets bad, he won't be prescribing any NSAIDS, because of the risks of long-term use they are now aware of.

So which NSAIDS are you taking now, and is the risk the same as the others?

I know, lol... when I got out after my first lot of chemo, I read all the bumf, and it seemed that I was taking a pill every two minutes... couldn't take the anti sick pill with or within an hour of the antifungal or antibiotic, but the one had to be taken half hour before food, the others with food... erm... like? Then I was on the Tramadol, and the anti sick pills.... a no no... and my usual BP pills... and the antiviral (there are some viruses which you can throw pills at, lol) which had to be on it's own as well.

Even the humble Gaviscon affects my BP pills.... *rolls eyes*

I know that Oxycodone is a controlled drug. I'm not sure about Tramadol, but I think it is, as well.

Paracetamol is still one of the most effective painkillers :-))

Dihydrocodeine (DF118) is very good (I found).

TW I don't envy you at all. I asked himself this morning if I had taken something as I was filling in my new form, he laughed like a loon!

When I am with aged BIL I always ask if he has taken his pills on time, then I remember to take mine.

I wonder if the overuse of painkillers started with the desire for pain relief in most cases. Like TW I can't see why anyone would choose to take them for a 'high'

Edit: TW I take Naproxen as an anti-inflammatory in place of Diclofenac at the moment as they are less irritating. Up to 1000 mgs per day.
