we all have it , it's a part of us but how do you cope with it ?

It was a question that I was asked as part of an interview , I couldn't answer truthfully at the time because I never knew the answer. I couldn't have answered truthfully either because the answer would have lost me the job.

I answered as truthfully as I could and said I would take a walk and come back.......but if you can't take that walk what would you do.

My answer was "cope with it"

Now don't get me wrong I was and still could be a damn good guv. I turned 3 pubs around but if I had answered wrong would they have turned me down?

What would your answer be ?

Just make a conscious effort to take a deep breath before saying anything. That one second you take can calm things down before they escalate into irrational action or speech.

We're all human, and none of us are bullet-proof, but self control is the key, and that comes with breathing. That old saying, count to ten, works. Maybe not to ten, but just that one moment to take that breath.

Also, if there is to be a confrontation, sit down and do it. It's difficult to lose your temper in a sitting position.

Edit: forgot to say, voice control. Drop your voice a notch, you will automatically speak slower, and softer, and you will be in control once again.

I think to keep inside is a bad thing it stews and then gets very messy so I just let it out....I have learnt not to get angry at silly things but sometimes its unavoidable I am at my best in summer i struggle to get through winter...

*shock*........*horror*

Older people know about spliffs?

I really shocked a couple of lads (my neighbours sons) in our local shop when I came out with 'You abolutely stiink of skunk - I would suggest you don't go into town until you've changed your clothes'.

They built a 'den' in their back garden - I only had to be out in my garden 5 minutes before I was really relaxed on the fumes!! LOL

I very rarely get really angry, but when I do I cry.............useless when I am trying to have a go at someone and my nose is bright red and streaming! LOL

i heard someone say once if you are having an argument and it gets too heated, just start laughing, not only will it calm you down it will knock the sails out of the person you are arguing with because they wouldnt expect it.

as they say laughter is the best medicine and its free, smile and the world smiles with you. lol!!!!!

Lol, Sue:-))

I used to let go and shout and then cry. It got me nowhere. Now I stay as calm as I can and let the other person go off. Then I say "right - it's my turn" and I calmly tell them what I think. It gets the message across. Of course sometimes when I'm really stressed I fly off the handle and go for them with an axe. Solves the problem very quickly:-))

I'll take this on board, Sue Maid.

From now on I'll stay calm, listen, take the other person's point into consideration.....

and then I'll say (very quietly)...

"you've got to be f***ing joking"

I am a bit like SueMaid (except for the axe bit.) If someone is shouting / ranting at you they are not to listen to your side - so I either talk calmly to them or walk out.
I have accidentally tried Florence's laughing technique once or twice - and it does work!

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 5 Jun 2010 22:45

What's wrong with an axe? Have I said something wrong? Doesn't everyone use an axe at times? Oooops:-))

Sue - I think calmly saying "you're f***ing joking" would work a treat:-))

Tinaj - I've accidentally laughed too when the situation has been so stupid. It does work.

tinaj Report 5 Jun 2010 22:49

This is excellent advice! Just because I have not used an axe before doesn't mean I can't start now! Maybe that will stop me laughing in the wrong places too...

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 5 Jun 2010 22:53

No no TinaJ - you have to laugh when using an axe. A maniacal laugh is essential. Don't you watch the movies:-))

I 'm like Kitty, I just get upset and cry , lol...

except one occasion only, when I was very close to killing someone, motive, means and opportunity...and could have made it a very plausible accident.... but I decided that was too easy on them....I can wait ;)
