heres a strange one.for the last 3 years ive been hassled by debt collectors .get ready for it....for 15.76.apparently it was from 3pay phones services .my DIL always sorts my mobiles out.and i changed from 3pay to tmobile when my contract ran out.[she worked for a phone company]while i never recieved any mail saying i owed this ...lets face it 15 quid is hardly alot of cash.also my DIL said mom you dont owe anything ,you were changed over when your contract ran out .you owe nothing.that was maybe at least 4 yrs ago.since then i have had one debtor after the other giving me hassle .now ...if i owed it i would happily pay it.3pay said oh weve sent the debt to debt collectors .i asked what it was for and was told its a normal fee.again DIL said mom you owe nothing.and so it goes on.......every month a new debtor makes threats .
the latest letter says OUR RECOVERY AGENTS MAY NOW ATTEND YOUR PREMISES WITHOUT ANY FURTHER WARNING TO COMMENCE RECOVERY PROCEEDURES.
personally its worth 15 quid to get um to go forth and multiply ,but hubby says not a ffffffff chance.so .......any suggestions puleeese.

Joyous,~~~~~
write now !and keep a copy ,say you are putting it in the hands of the debt recovery Ombusdman, address can be got from CAB.......,,,,and they will be hearing from him,

They will need to produce all documentation regarding this,if they havnt kept any records then they wont be bothering you anymore.!!!

that letter is a scare threat, and if they carry it out and someone calls then big charges will be added.

also isn;t this law still in place , you can ask them to produce the original contract not a copy signed that was another that stopped them.

I would contact citizens advice bureau for advice on this because it can have a serious effect on your credit rating. They would be able to advise the best course of action and the more information you can get on how best to proceed the better chance you have of winning.

Mobile phone companies are a nightmare for doing things like this.

A week before we moved up here about 5 yrs ago I got a new mobile on 28 day approval...but although the reception in my old place was spot on...it was non existant here ...so I cancelled the contract and handed the phone back.

3 yrs later I was turned down for credit...when I paid the money to find out what it was for it was for £90...for the phone I had on approval which I CANCELLED...dodgy wotsits. Not once had I received any invoice suggesting that they felt they were owed money...and my post was redirected for 6 mths after I moved.

I threatened them with OFCOM or whatever it was...the communication ombudsman and oddly enough they kindly wiped the debt. PAH..nw I'd never use that company again but I'd also make sure that I have absolutely everything in writing should i ever wish to cancel a contract again. x

well my credit rating is 100% so i dont want to ruin that.this is why i think maybe i should just pay the poxy 15 quid.but then i think what if it was 15 thousand .its more about the injustice of this.and how they can do this and get away with it.scarey ......oh gawd im thinking twice again.lol

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 27 May 2010 21:45

Surely it'd cost em more than £15 to send people round in the blinking first place.

I'm sure it's scare tactics hon...try not to worry too much xx

TootyFruity Report 27 May 2010 21:59

It's the principle not the money we know that and anyway why should you pay for nothing. Try not to worry.

Just speak to C.A.B. They will give impartial advice.

Kay???? Report 27 May 2010 22:13

Joyous.......dont dare pay it till youve know whats what,,,,,CAB,,,,,,,but let the company know your intensions aswell,,,copy copy and copy,,,,,,,,while you are heading for a legal battle they will back off,,,and the old ombusdman can make them pay in your favour for any loss of credit rating, and stress related threats from this outfit.......!!!

It happens here in Oz too. I had a blood test years ago. I paid the bill and 3 years later a debt collector came to the door saying there would be legal action if the bill wasn't paid. I'm fairly organised with receipts and I was able to find it. Thank goodness I keep them for years. The collector told me that he had spoken to loads of people who had receipts for so called unpaid bills from the same company.
