Jean (Monmouth) Report 25 May 2010 19:38

So what if you need another in ten years, the operation will be more refined in that time. You need it now! Never say what if, where your health and well being are concerned.

TeresaW Report 25 May 2010 19:42

Puss, ten years is the official line on the life-span of a replacement joint, but usually it's longer than that. My Gran's hip replacement lasted more than that, 25 years, and she walked miles on it.

If it's got to the stage where it's making your feet and legs swell then it's time to go for it. You'll be much better for it. It will only get worse unless you have it done.

I was worried about having my hip done, but I dont' regret having it done now, and if it only lasts ten years, so be it, it can be replaced again. If after that I need yet another one, I won't be able to have it done, but I'd have had 20 years of being able to walk. I couldn't before I had it done.

what im worried about tho is that i had day surgery last year , they said on the ward i would not be suitable for a anaesthetic again on the day ward it would be where there is specialis equipment so im scared and havent really thought about it till now, im sure they will know , atm i would chop it off now lol xx

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 25 May 2010 20:36

You wouldn't be in a day surgery situation for that op anyhow Puss....try not to worry too much...they know your circumstances and will act accordingly.

Just look forward to how it'll feel post surgery when you're all healed and raring to go !! xx
