We have to find space for 3 wheelie bins.

Green - for general household rubbish
Blue - tins, paper and certain plastics - but no cardboard
Brown - garden material - but not soil or turf - certainly no veg peelings

Council do spot checks on bins

Glass can be taken to bins at some supermarkets

Dear Joy

Hello

Try and recycle most things but there are no places to take things like batteries, old textiles etc.

Would be helpful if the local authority provided more collection points that are accessible to all.

And trying to got hold of the recycle bags at times is almost impossible.

Take care
Very best wishes
xx

I AM recycled....I'm a recycled teenager!

We now have 3 bins which makes it much easier than filling bags, then trundling off in the car to the waste centre.

Black for everyday.
Brown for Glass/plastic (everything washed out first)
Green for cardboard/garden waste (no garden though lol)

Couldn't be simpler and, for some perverse reason, I get a kick out of watching the plastic/glass bin fill up. Must be short of entertainment I reckon. Either that or I am secretly horrified at how many products we use!!

Unwanted clothes go to the recycling centre at the supermarket.

Makes us feel that we are doing 'our bit'.

if we had wheelie bins for each thing, i woud recycle, but im not dragging no plastic tub out the front each week,

and i need the black plastic tub for baby S, sandpit toys! lol
i do send all me boxes and plastic bottle to the school for modelling, and what papers i do buy

and i send all baby s, old clothes to a lass who hasnt got much, or the school, depending on the state of them lol

I havent read all the replies to this thread but re-cycling here in Wales is very much encouraged we recycle plastic cardboard paper. foil, and recently food! not peelings ect; just waste food sadly I dont really have any as I recycle into the dog. We do put all garden waste peelings into the bin which the worms eat and turns to compost eventually. It means there is hardly any actual dustbin matter any more so less for the landfill site.

Joan we used to have the little bins which floated off every time with the wind the council now give us bags which are three colours for each item we noticed when the bags were picked up they all went in to the same lorry crushed together what was the point of all the separation? Puzzled Wales.

At the moment we have a green wheelie bin collected weekly and a brown one for garden waste collected fortnightly, we also have a large green box with a lid for bottles/jars, newspapers junk mail and cans (washed). We take plastic bottles and caardboard to a recycling centre at the local T***o when we do our shopping and we have a composter for peelings, tea bags etc. It becomes a way of life and takes no time at all. From April our system changes.

We have just taken delivery of a new blue wheelie bin which is for cardboard, glass, newspapers, junk mail, magazines, phone directories, shredding, cans, plastic. That will be collected fortnightly, then we still have the green bin for non recyclable, collected fortnightly, the brown bin for garden rubbish collected fortnightly and a small brown lockable bin for all food waste, including meat, gravy, small amounts of fat, bread, veg peelings, tea bags etc. Collected weekly, To go with that bin we have a caddy to keep in the kitchen. The food waste undergoes a special high temp treatment that turns it into compost for farmers.

If we don't recycle land fill sites will not be able to cope with all the rubbish, I think it is extremely important.

Here in Lanarkshire, we have 3 domestic bins, all are wheelie type.

GREEN BIN.- Is for general waste, and emptied every 2 weeks.

BLUE BIN- Recycling Bin. Originally only for paper products. Now includes polystyrene( excuse spelling) products, washed plastic bottles/ containers, textiles, aerosol cans, clean tin foil.tin cans.( Emptied every alternative 2 weeks)

BROWN BIN- Garden refuse. Emptied roughly monthly from March to October.

Glass recycling- We are fortunate as most large car parks offer a glass recycling facility.

Battery Recycling- Locally Asda and Tesco have a recycling bin for used batteries.
