Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 31 Mar 2009 12:46

You have my full sympathy on this one.

But, do bear in mind that it could have been much much worse. 3 weeks ago two low-life tried to steal my car - they broke the driver's window, obviously could not steal it so they torched it. It was only a Ford Fiesta but he was a lovely little car and I had looked after him well. The two of them set fire to 5 cars that night - why? No idea. Even the police were sympathetic when I offered to shoot the two of them!

It will go to court as they were arrested but that's not the point is it?

I would have been happy if they'd just left the window to fix and a bit of messed up wiring ... (although I would have been cross at the time at least it would have been repairable).

So 3 weeks on, I've had to raid the ISA for funds for a "new" second hand car as couldn't do without one and can't wait for the police/insurance to get their acts together. It's been a complete hassle and so much time wasted. Not to mention money - I hadn't planned to upgrade for another 2 or 3 years. I am well cross.

But, take a deep breath, calm yourself - yes, it will cost money to fix but at least you still have the car - and that's the main thing!

Take care.

Jill

Hi Barb
So sorry to hear your car has been tampered with I am sure it won't be cheap to get it fixed.
Mongrels want more than the stocks. I would get thrown off GR if I said what should be done to them lol.

Years ago we had a car parked in a car park in the City. Broad daylight and some hoons broke the window stole our brand new CB Radio and even had the cheek to steal the battery out of the engine. Never did find who did it but it cost us an arm and a leg to replace.
Like others have said it's an invasion of your privacy and all because they are too lazy to go out and get a job in most cases. You work hard and then some low life comes along and steals what you have worked hard to achieve.

Take Care

Jackie

Hope you get things sorted out soon and that it doesn't cost too much

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, just to update, I've been to the garage and they say it will cost £250 ish + VAT so will now look at the insurance policy to see what I am covered for.

The Police have been and given me a crime reference number, and have said three French cars have been done on our street last night, all the same thing, they have tried to get in by taking the locks, and have not suceeded with any of them.

They have said they will arrest me if I catch the scroat and bury him, but I said oh well put me ina nice padded cell, feed me once a day, and give me a puter, I'll be fine...lol

Jill, I am so sorry they did that to your car, it's a dreadful feeling, makes it kind of personal doesn't it. Never mind |I will get it fixed and put it in the garage from now on.

Barb xx

Sorry some Barsteward tried to nick your car Barbara,Re repairs, might be worth trying your insurance company if,you have a protested Bonus or if it costs more than the amount you have to shell out anyway.I know locks are very expensive and you really should have them all replaced.then get a dam good alarm system fitted. The standard ones are,nt all that good, you need a "Cat 1" at least,I suppose as a last resort you could always try getting some on the cheap at your bootsale.pmsl.xx

Cheap on a bootsale for my lovey little car,...no way...lol

Hubby has gone home to dig out the insurance to see if it protected, I have a little softop Cabriolet Merlin so just the two doors, the polis seem to think they have read about French cars on the internet and that they are given ideas about how to break in, they think it's a one off because three French cars were done in the street.

The garage have to strip the door down to get to the mechanism and thats where the labour costs come into it and then they took the lock caps and they have to be painted because it's a special paint job..

Sorry phone back soon xx

Our car was stolen one night..............all that was left was the lock on the road.

It was found burned out later the same day.

I was fuming as I only filled it with petrol the day before, the insurance company paid out a pittance AND I lost my no claims bonus!! *sighs*

I now have my no claims protected.

Tell the police that if or when they catch them, you are making a claim for the £100.excess you have to pay. good job you have a protected claims .that means it won, affect next years price. but keep your eyes on them.take care.**M**.
