Hi Irishgirl

I have Degenerative Back Disease, have had it for years. I had to have an MRI scan, should be going for another one shortly.

Am being tested at the moment for everything ...

I can't take Hormone tablets, am sure others will come through and advise.

Ah they will be checking your bone density then

it probably will be the tunnel thingy

i had to have a bone scan to confirm if i had a fractured wrist - the dye injection is nothing to worry about - it's just so that the bones show up on the scan - you'll probably have to wait a few hours after the injection before they scan you, so that the dye has time to work...........

Hi Irish girl.

My job is a fracture liason nurse................... I specialize in osteoporosis.
Jen is right................... it is a DEXA scan that you will have .................... this is not like an MRI or CT scan where the tunnels are used . you will lay on a couch and they will use low dose x-rays to determine your bone density. They usually check your hips and spine as these are the most common sites for severe osteoporotic fractures.
If you are found to have a low bone density, your risk of fracturing a hip is significantly increased.
The good news is that this can be easily resolved with bone sparing therapy................ this consists of tablets that are taken once a week (Alendronate). You may also be given a calcium and vitamin D supplement. Of couse it is important to get plenty of calcium in your diet too.
Hope this is of some help.
Please feel free to Pm me if you have any questions.
Luv Daisy

HI Irish Girl
Yes I have Osteoporosis. I had to have a Bone Density Scan after breaking my foot to find this out.. It was a type of sliding machine I went through and not an actual Tunnel. Not sure what they call it though.
I take Actonel Combi D for my Osteoporosis. it consists of a Fizzy drink that you take 6 days a week and then on the 7th day in the morning a Tablet. You can't lie down after taking the tablet or have food or drink of any kind for 30 minutes as can cause stomach problems so I usually go and make my beds and have a shower and then have my coffee. So far so good for me on it. I haven't had any side affects.
Hope this helps

Have a nice day

Regards
Jackie
