I have tried to read the pages with the default colours but have dreadful problems with eye strain.

I have now loaded GR onto Firefox, on it's own tab. I run AOL for all other sites at the same time.

In Tools on Firefox I have changed the font style and colour, also the page colour so I have lost the awful left hand column!

Just make sure you overide the colour choice in the advanced tab on font and colours then tinker with different modes until you find one you can read.

oooooooh I didn't know you could do that on firefox...*goes to tinker*

Thanks, hun :-)

ETA: Is it only on Version 3.0? Cause I'm not on that and I can't see an option under Tools for fonts & colours (not in options either)

Doing this also knocks out the colour boxes on your tree. Useful if you have colour impared vision as mentioned on Chat.

It's not ideal but at least I can read the pages for more than 5 minutes before I want to rip my left eye out!

Ok I have a cream screen with deep red script. It's fairly easy on the eyes and although you lose the outline of boxes mousing to the links still work of course.

I have the minimum font size set at 16.

The bonus of using a different browser just for GR means you don't have to keep readjusting your setting for web sites that are designed so you can actually read them!

I found that my weakest eye was constantly trying to readjust on the default GR pages. I guess cos the page layout was offset too far to the right.

The added bonus is I don't get the all irritating flashing ads. Although I did have Active X disabled on GR via AOL anyway.

Hi All,
This might help.

You can make some changes. Click on zoom & increase size, then change text sizing in the Page icon in your tool bar.

I've changed my background to an all light green. By clicking on "tools icon" in toolbar, click on "Internet options", then on "accessability", tick "Ignore colours specified on web pages" click on OK. Then click on "Colours" ensure "use windows colours" is unticked. Click on background & choose your colour!!! Also you can choose the text colour.
OK the boxes to finish & your background is changed

This helps to cut out the advertising & improve visabilityOnly one problem this will change the background of all web pages you visit. To see them normally you'll need to und the above

Hope this helps.
Steve

Steve
You are brilliant. I have been searching to try and change my colours. I did see that in Tools but was unsure trying it I didnt want to upset the whole computer. Anyway I have now got a nice Green Background with Black Type. So much easier on the eyes.
Still can't get rid of that flasing add though. I have Internet Explorer.
Once again thank you so much Steve YOUR A STAR

Just been fiddling around with the Colours. I have now got a Beige Screen with Black letters on the Main typing I do and Blue for the Topics and Person Posting It is so much easier on the eyes a lovely soft colour.
Fiddle around like Steve said and I am sure you will get something to your liking.

Jackie

Further to Steve's comments re changing settings, that's why I only run GR through Firefox so I don't have to change settings for normal surfing via AOL.

I hope GR take note of all this fiddling around we have to undertake in order to access a site we pay for.

OK, so I know have pale pink text on a purple background. It's marginally better but my eyes are still flipping out over the off centre thing. I suspect that I may be leaving GR for a while.

Really Sue, it's quite spectacular to see LOL. I tried your colour but it wasn't right for me. They don't have the pale lilac on the pallet that I would have preferred and the pale pink background wasn't nice. I think I might have to leave it until the current eye problem settles down (assuming that it ever does *sighs* )

Thanks though, I learned something new with this :-)) Which is always good.

Hi Sue
I did email Genes to ask them if they could do something about the colours for example put a Colour Button on the site so we could change to what suits us. I did say a lot of us were complaining about it. Below is the reply I got from them. Hopefully if enough people complain by email they will do something about it. Well lets hope so anyway
Have a good Day
