Libby Report 13 Oct 2008 10:43

Just had to have my 13 1/2 year old Bella put to sleep. She was fine until yesterday afternoon (apart from a bit of arthritis), she was sick on the carpet, I put her outside while cleaning up. She lay outside in the sunshine but when she tried to walk she was unable to move her back legs. Carried her in, lay her on her bed. Each time she tried to drink she was unable to keep it down.

Vet said she had found a mass high up inside but felt, due to her age, that it was inopperable.

14 year old daughter is in bits and has refused to go to school. Bella was a present for her first birthday.

I know it is for the best but I can't help feeling cruel.

Ah i really feel for you and your daughter, can't blame her for not wanting to go to school. Just remind her that you did not want Bella to suffer.

You did the best thing.
Hugs.

So,what have you done that is cruel then?

Poor old Bella won't be thinking that. She had to leave the people who loved her. There were more important things to do.She knows,I am sure, that she was very lucky in this world to have somebody who dealt with her suffering so very quickly and kindly.

Have a special day with your daughter.Make a good memory to go over the bad one.

Bella was named after the pub we used to run. Was supposed to be a guard dog but the only thing she would have done is lick a burgler to death. lol.

She had a litter of pups when she was two years old and we have photos of daughter with pups in their bed when they were only 2 days old.

Didn't like walking very far these last twelve months but still went around the block every night with my hubby. Loved to follow the sun.

Can't bring myself to wash her dishes etc yet.

Sorry to hear you've lost your little pal, they leave us with so many happy memories.

We lost our dog when she was 14 yrs.,and in the same way. When they've become a big part of family life it's hard for children to understand, but of course it's the hard part of growing up.

At her end you did the kindest, loving act for your friend,to free her from pain.

Hugs to you and your daughter. It's so hard when we lose our pets.

Of course you weren't cruel. You recognised that Bella was terminally ill, and took the right decision before she suffered too much, and you did it out of love for her.

Aww, I so sorry and I know you will all be hurting like h**l right now.

She sounded like a well loved pet.
Dont feel cruel, you did the best thing for her. It would have been cruel to try and keep her going like some people do.
You thought about her and not your feeling's.

Beyond The Rainbow....

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful--lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.

For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

I feel for you.

Bobtail and Brian (i), I wish you hadn't posted these poems, you have made me cry. No seriously, they are such nice poems, say lovely things and are a balm to the hearts of those of us who have lost our wonderful pets/friends.Heart-breaking, to say the least.

Glenys the Menace!

Glenys the Menace! Report 13 Oct 2008 16:11

Oh Gawd, you've set me off now. I'm usually OK, but since returning from Tunisia recently we've been very concerned about a tiny kitten we saw out there. She was completely alone, and practically begging someone to pick her up and take her home, she really was desperate. She kept climbing up me for hugs, and later running after people in the street, but they just ignored her.
Since being home we've contacted WSPA and RSPCA International, also SPANA in Tunis, but don't know the outcome yet, so don't know if she's still alive.
Sorry Libby, I've hijacked your thread. But I had to tell you about her; hope you don't mind.
