Caz, I am not criticising anyone who either chooses to work or who has to work. I mentioned in my very first post the financial pressures that mean many mums HAVE to work these days.

My point is, do mums who choose or are able to stay at home really need to be slated for it and treated like some sort of underclass?

I would have more money to spend on luxuries like a new car, holidays, expensive hairdresser etc if I worked full time...but I choose to make that sacrifice, I want to be with my children so they are brought up with my idea of manners/good behaviour/hugs & kisses etc. My husband works fiull time so we pay our way, but I didnt have kids to hand them over to a nursery full of young girls. My best friend worked in a nursery for 13 yrs, some of the kids cried for their mummies all day, she used to fib to their mums that the kids had been fine - even though they knew otherwise by their tear-stained faces. Couldnt bring herself to tell them they were missing mummy so she just said what they wanted to be told. However, I have a huge amount of respect for single mums who go out to work, they must be exhausted but they carry on.

Every parent has a selfish right,to be home with their family,,,,if extra income is needed then they have everyright to work ,,,its all down to economics within the home,,

No one should feel feel guilt either way,.

I missed that Muffy...

There you go, my point illustrated then.

Thing is, I stayed at home with my kids until they were both at school, then I took a part-time job at weekends working in a restaurant. However I do wish I could have been at home for all their growing up, but as time went on, and economics changed, I had to work in the end. Eventually,as they left school, taking a crappy full time job in a factory because one of them wanted to go to uni. We didn't have the money to take them through it.

As it happened she chose not to in the end....so we had a damn good holiday together.
