My Mum used to always make her cakes and sometimes made me one, when I lived alone, but when my son was small I used to get the mixture from the Weigh and Save shops, we don't have them here anymore. They did a wonderful rum flavoured one and I made a cake out of the mixture most years and also an anniversary cake for Mum and Dad when Dad was dying of cancer. (Their anniversary is a few days after Christmas) He did manage to enjoy a slice, it was a nice textured cake and always came out well.
My o.h. doesn't like Christmas or fruit cake, or Christmas pud, boring old beggar!

I usually make mine in Sept,as it is better to let it mature, but I haven't this year, and we are away next week,so it will have to be October.
don't think OH will mind.He loves it!
Always make one for my daughter, and a "tester" for my OH!.

Brenda I have to laugh. One year I made 3 Christmas cakes! It was a very expensive year.
One was for a friend the other one was for Christmas and one for OH as he cannot resist them. Unfortunately the other one happened to be cut down from a round to a square!!!
