McB Report 16 Sep 2008 19:55

Over the last two weeks the dog has been unwell & not been getting any better, had to take her back to the vet's this morning & was told it would be kinder to put her down, had her or about eleven years & she came from a dog rescue centre, think she was about two, her kidneys were failing & she had a large tumor on her liver & pancreas, I'm a grown man of 57 & i cried my eyes out, feel really down, it's so lonely at home.

Brian , love, my heart aches for you and i know those tears will flow.

We love the old dogs as a best friend, when our rescue lab dies 20 months ago, I could not stop looking at where he laid down and crying.

Big hugs mate because i know you will need them,

The Rainbow Bridge.....

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one runs suddenly from the group. You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look, once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

I thought I had come to terms with losing Harvey earlier this year, but we returned from two weeks holiday on Monday morning and when we put the key in the door and walked into the house just for a second I expected to hear his bark, and I felt so sad.

So sorry to hear of your loss McB.

We have had some wonderful dogs and cats over the years and when they have passed away it has left us all bereft, even my husband who isn't really an animal lover has been affected by their loss.

We have such a special relationship between us humans and dogs especially. They love us unreservedly and are the most loyal and devoted of companions so when we lose them they leave behing a great void in our lives.

It is like losing a member of the family but time heals and when the hurt lessens you will remember all the wonderful times you shared.

Treasured memories my friend that will be with you always.

It's always sad to lose our pets and tears are to be expected. The only consolation is to remember that you gave your dog the best life you could after she had a rocky start and in return she gave you the devotion and company you now miss.
I am sorry you are unable to take on another pet at the mo and maybe you can find a way to care for animals by helping at a rescue centre or something to help fill your time and to make a difference to other animals whose lives might not be so good.
Time will ease your pain but your beloved dog will always be in your heart.
