I too use Nizoral (comes in a red box).

It's very effective as long as you follow the instructions correctly. Wash every so many days and leave it on for the set time before rinsing off.

Bit expensive. but well worth it.

Several years ago,my brother had to go to a Trichologist? (sp) as he was having problems with his hair and he was told to stop using Head and Shoulders as it causes the skin flakes to build up on the scalp, i.e. it sticks them to the scalp rather than letting them go.
I never use it but will try some of the herbal methods off here.

I get Capisal from the Drs, also Capisal lotion, as I get great patches or flake in my scalp. I am also using Simple shampoo at the moment, but this makes hair quite fly away. Jean

Julie Ann, mentioned about cradle cap and my eldest had that as a baby. Mil told me to wet the hair, put on some bicarb of soda rub it in and massage for a few minutes then use baby shampoo and wash it off. I tried it and it worked a treat, everytime it flaired up, I would use that and it would clear within a couple of days.

I suffer from psoriasis and have tried many products over the years. The best I have used to date for my scalp is Exorex, contains mild polytar. They make a shampoo but I use the lotion direct onto my scalp. It doesn't leave my hair greasy and I leave it on between shampoos. It's available on prescription, free here in Wales, but can be bought over the chemist's counter.

Good luck.

Hi

I have psoriasis on my scalp and have suffered from thinning hair because of it for many years. In the last twelve months I have changed to using shampoo without sodium lauryl sulphate or derivatives in it. Unlike another respondent I have had good results with the Jason range, but I am currently using Urterkram, which is Danish and that is v good as well, no perfume or chemicals at all. I got that from Garden Organic.

I have previously tried Alphosyl, T Gel and various other coal taar based products with no success whatsoever.

Incidentally, I have also stopped using toothpaste with sodium lauryl sulphate in it - it's even in Aloe Dent and other 'natural' ranges, but it is not in Sensodyne Total Care Gel. That's making a difference to me too.

Makes you wonder...
