Maddiecow Report 28 May 2008 07:33

If the block is as you described they are usually leasehold. There is normally a maintenance fee - ground rent that is paid for the upkeep of the gardens. Contact them and also make a complaint as I am sure horses are not part of the lease agreement. Contact the management agency as well as the RSPCA or the horse protection line someone put a number up for earlier.

If they have broken the terms of the lease you could probably get a motion started to move them anyway even if they own the property if they do not get rid of the horse.

That horse pee can smell awful, fancy bringing a horse home.
We have someone round here, with two Shetland ponies in their garden. I have not seen them, but my pal has, and she says she is going to call RSPCA, as they dont seem to have much grass.

Cant understand some people.

Rosi Glow

Rosi Glow Report 25 May 2008 10:32

I would get some more neighbours to complain, the RSPCA might come out quicker if there were lots of calls.

MarionfromScotland Report 25 May 2008 10:06

If he is the kind of person you can talk too,ask him what he plans doing with it as it cannot stay there.
Keep on at the RSPCA and council too.

As MIldred say's take some photos, buy it a Sunday paper and take the photo of it reading it at least that way it's proof it was there by todays date lol, or a camera with dates on it.

Make sure you take some photos as evidence, and as back up should the horse be removed and brought back at a later date.

Make sure you have date imprint on the photos also.

I agree with everybody, but definately ring council and report this.
If this is elderly peoples residence,I would have thought that the last thing they want is a horse in their garden.
Although I can see the funny side,It might be distressing for some.

VIVinHERTS Report 25 May 2008 02:42

Rose,

Contact the local council/housing association, environmental health, rspca (again) and IHPL.

The horse should be ok eating grass so long as it doesn't get colic but it needs water, and shelter although it is now too warm to put a rug on it.
It will also need grooming and the manure removed.

From what you have said, this seems very unlikely so I would be taking photos and documenting what is going on.
Lets us know how you get on with the authorities and how the horse is doing.

Ring up your local newspaper, there will be reporters about, even on a Sunday and the publicity might make them move it somewhere or get rid of it.
Call the International Horse Protection League, now has a new name World Horse Welfare.
see below:

If you see a horse in distress call us on; 08000 480180
All other enquiries please call 01953 498682

In the UK we have a team of 16 Field Officers who investigate over 1500 welfare concerns every year reported through our welfare hotline 08000 480180. We run four Recovery & Rehabilitation Centres holding a total of about 300 horses at any one time & we have over 1700 horses in approved homes through our loan scheme.

If the orse is in a comunial garden go and ride it or lease it for rides. Collect the fertilizer in sacks and sell to rose growers. Plant some grass on it and call the police!
