But I am getting quite cross at the local radio station. There is a Gay Pride Weekend in the radio area and they have been interviewing some of the people attending:-

I have no problems with that!
I have no problems with people celebrating anything

but....

I quote: "we have a need to celebrate our sexuality"

People are different in colour, sexuality etc etc. Am I alone in thinking by celebrating a specific section of the community you are taking them out of 'normality' for which they claim they are (and rightly so). Or am I missing something?

'Your worship, I was celebrating my sexuality. The (insert species of choice) was an adult and consented'.

I feel same when completing census forms Colin.

i don't have a problem with it myself ....community groups celebrate for differant reasons and don't see how doing so is taking them out of "normality"

Me and my brother were talking about this a while back & his point of view is that celebrations of alternative sexualities counter balance the negative reactions of the past & what most people have grown up facing. He says its like people celebrating being black with the mobo awards etc

I dont celebrate being white, hetrosexual, bald etc etc...I just don't need to celebrate being what I am...
Frankie, I worked in Brum City Centre for many years and had a lot of gay guys work for me, but very few felt the need to got to the celebrations....for them being gay was normal and they didnt feel the need to 'strut their stuff''

you may not colin .....but you should be free to do so if you wanted :-))

My brother had a hard time in his teens & 20s cos he was gay & he told me being with other gay people like that was the first time he felt properly proud of himself & belonging. I went with him 1 year & it was fab. Each to their own & they're not hurting anyone

I think you are quite rigt & they themselves are taking it out of normality

Okay but freedom comes at a price does it not, what about the cost of road closures, policing etc should that be paid for from council taxes? (and that goes for all 'minority' events). It just seems to me that councils find cash for all sort of minority parties and celebrations but come Rememberance Sunday or the like there is no cash to police or close roads

Anyone can go to gay pride I believe........and be as extravert or introvert as they wish to be.

Personally I am happy that a group of folk who used to suffer are now so hapy and brightly gay.

Of course anyone can go to Gay Pride, just as they can Ede or Ramadan...its really not the events that tick me off just the amount of public cash and media attention that is thrown at them,

My mate used to announce it to the world quite regularily when he'd had a skinful & I regularily had to clean up the blood.
Now vvvvv.few take any notice & we're all happier.
The world is more tolerant & there's less predjudice & thats no bad thing.

Exactly what am I'm trying to get at Carla, everyone these days is normal, there is no need to seperate yourself from any other section of society and as you say we are so much much more tolerent I cant see any reason to have celebration aimed at one area of the community.

I think we've probably just paid for another Royal Wedding-I havent had my cake from the last one yet.

I see your point Colin.........but I guess that Gay Pride has built up over the years and now is a big event thus getting lots of media attention.

On the same note , I should imagine that the amount of people that go all spend money in the local business's.
