All this Gay pride, whose right, whose wrong, etc..
A man doesn't know which way to turn... lol...

ccouldn't agree more Colin - as far as I'm concerned peoples' sexual preferences are personal, I do not wish to know if someone is heterosexual, lesbian or gay or anything else there may be that I don't know about!!! I just don't want to know or discuss it - anymore than I want to know their politics or their eating habits - it's their business and they should keep it to themselves - no way would I discuss my sexual preferences with anyone

Hi, Carla that pretty much sums it up i reckon as its not likely to change.

No worries Colin but I do agree you have a valid point, however,if people chose to celebrate an aspect of their individuality at the end of the day we can't stop them & so long as people have freedom to express themselves at least we know we live in a Democracy.I think there's a lot of apathy locally-like with the fair I mentioned, had someone got a petition etc maybe we'd make a difference.
So long as important festivals aren't put on the scrap heap I fear we'll just have to 'grin & bear' it.

Sorry Carla...wasn't being sarcastic....just thick!! lol

I meant we pay for a lot of events that aren't relevant to us individually, like Amanda say's Carnivals etc are stopped.Local to me they're trying to charge the fair £2000 for extra policing for 3 days-it's ludicrous.

Thanks Tory...but don't feel the need to shout from the rooftops about who or what I am and neither should anyone else. No-one should feel the need in this day and age to 'justify themselves' to any other section of society.

Amanda2003 Report 24 May 2008 16:42

Indeed Colin...........it is a sad fact in my area that we no longer have a carnival..........so many small businesses have folded so there is no financial support for the carnival.............same with the small community "do" that used to occur on the estate.

Amanda it does and when I worked in Brum I used to lose half my staff on Pride Weekend the party was so good....but my feelings are great lets have a party lets have a massive party in fact but there is no need to direct it at any specific section of the community

Sorry Carla you have totally lost me :)

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 24 May 2008 16:34

I see your point Colin.........but I guess that Gay Pride has built up over the years and now is a big event thus getting lots of media attention.

On the same note , I should imagine that the amount of people that go all spend money in the local business's.

Staffs Col

Staffs Col Report 24 May 2008 16:34

Tory...I understand what you mean, but I wonder just wonder if I would be allowed to stand up and have a proud to be a hetro party...not that I think I would ever feel the need to

I think we've probably just paid for another Royal Wedding-I havent had my cake from the last one yet.

Staffs Col

Staffs Col Report 24 May 2008 16:32

Exactly what am I'm trying to get at Carla, everyone these days is normal, there is no need to seperate yourself from any other section of society and as you say we are so much much more tolerent I cant see any reason to have celebration aimed at one area of the community.

tory

tory Report 24 May 2008 16:31

yes they are electing to highlight themselves ...but that is there right wild :-))))
I didn't say anything about who should pay I just said they should have the right :-))))

My mate used to announce it to the world quite regularily when he'd had a skinful & I regularily had to clean up the blood.
Now vvvvv.few take any notice & we're all happier.
The world is more tolerant & there's less predjudice & thats no bad thing.

Of course anyone can go to Gay Pride, just as they can Ede or Ramadan...its really not the events that tick me off just the amount of public cash and media attention that is thrown at them,

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 24 May 2008 16:21

Anyone can go to gay pride I believe........and be as extravert or introvert as they wish to be.

Personally I am happy that a group of folk who used to suffer are now so hapy and brightly gay.
