It`s not upskilling. One of the receptionists went on a phlebotomy course last week , she waited months to do it , so how they think I`m going to get one soon I don`t know. Anyway she had 2 1/2 hours of Anatomy , and 1/2 hour taking bloods from a dummy arm which didn`t work,

My old doctor always bruised me terrible, and I always preferrd the nurse to take it.

As for being chatty, how nice for someone to put you at ease. More like a friend than someone taking blood.

Good luck to you Ros, hope all goes well for you.

Oh for someone at my doctors to take blood!

We have to go to the local hospital for our blood tests. Opening hours are 8.30 til 11.30 & 1.30 til 3.30 but you have to be there at least 15 mins before closing time & if there's a big queue they close the door early.

Hi Ros, I wonder how long it is since the GP took blood himself? Sometimes I bruise and sometimes i don't. I wonder if the patients who bruised were on blood thinning drug such as aspirin? I believe you bruise more easily then. How did he know about the bruises? Did the patients complain?

Why not take the training if they pay, any training is good, and any other that is on offer, then the new GP you go to will benefit. best always to turn criticism around to your advantage. Good luck
But don't give up your job while you need it, try and stick it out until the other one is available.

Good luck Ros, you don't need hassle at work, wonder what the gps will do when all the patients complain when you go. Will be too late then, they will realise they didn't appreciate a good worker, one who can chat and put people's minds at ease etc.
Take care, take a deep breath....

Rosalyn
they used to put a heat pad on daughter too but sometimes was still a problem and took several attempts to get a suitable vein that wouldn't collapse. was VERY important not to put the chemo in unless it could complete cos that would cause BIG problemes. Her last chemo session took 5!!! attempts and an anaesthetist to get a vein for the chemo, and this was in Hospital.so its not a straightforward procedue no matter what they think.
I dont care if i bruise as long as i dont feel the needle go in in the first place.

Best way to P... them O,,,,,.

Do the retraining without complaint and offer to do something else too that will enhance your skills- can they pay?

Carry on talking to your patients and ask them to complete a patient satisfaction survey (create one of your own) and present it to your bosses as part of your development. (you may also learn things about yourself.)

I know you feel down about this but be confident in how you deal with it rather than PO'd that way you will always have the upper hand.

Take it from one who knows. (NHS worker- admin manager!!)
