Catherine from Manchester Report 29 Apr 2008 10:58

Was invited last month to OH's Aunty's annual company dinner, got the invite and saw I had to pay £18. My OH's cousins partner was also invited and she didn't pay-She told me a week before the doo that she wasn't happy I have had to pay as I'm family, and that they would be giving me the cheque back the night of the doo-

The doo arrived and nothing was said and no chq given-so I just assumed they were a bit embarrased about it and just decided to rip the cheque up-I wrote it on the 13/3. the doo was the 28th.

I looked online at my bank yesterday and the chq was cashed-
The only thing that is getting my back up is my OH is doing some work for them-for free as they are family-Do you think they should have shown me the same curtesy and do you think I have every right to be annoyed?

Hi Catherine, yes, I think it was a bit mean especially with your OH doing work for free for them at the moment.

I think I would be tempted to send them an itemised bill of the work he is doing... and be sure to let them know on that bill that the work cost x amount, but no payment required as they are family... if they don't feel their conscience prickling and re-imburse your money for the do.. well, don't do anything again for them as a favour.lol

lol Catherine... something must have happened when I altered my first name on my account a couple of days ago.. still not right, but looks ok!

Actually, I have revised my advice, lol

I think I would send them a a bill, showing them what discounts they have received as family... and make certain that the costs of £18.00 admin are payable.

The more I think about it, the cheekier it seems!

I would be annoyed, but do you think they have forgotten?

I would be tempted to itemise the cost of the job Olly i doing and say something like, just so you can see how much it cost but of course as you are family we wont be charging.

Hi, Catherine - yes I'd be annoyed too but (I know I'm not going to be popular for this) - give them the benefit of the doubt, let it go, it's not worth a row BUT if your OH is asked to do a job for them in future I'd do what someone else said & give them a written quote/estimate and don't let them have it done for free again.

((hugs))

thanks everyone-
What with the easter basket at the school the other month now this-----

Aunty knew I was paying as I had a conversation with her prior to me writing the chq out-

They asked OH to do the work then must have banked my chq after-cos I gave a chq in to them on the 13/3 it don't take till yesterday to clear...

I had a word with OH's cousin who I'm really close to, and she said send em a bill for £18-lol
