JackyJ1593 Report 14 Apr 2008 22:58

I have just had a look through the nudged thread for Ethel of Stoke Poges to remind myself what I used to sign myself as on the thread (I was Gladys wi the white nets). But my name and membership number is showing up on someone elses posts (Dolores) and if you hover over the name you will see that it is a different membership number. I clicked on to send a message to see who it was and no name is appearing.

I know that I have only ever had one membership number and also only one name on the Ethel thread. Very weird :-(

Weird things have happened in the past when someone has deleted from GR. Do you know if this Dolores still a member?

JackyJ1593 Report 14 Apr 2008 23:04

Dolores was the name used on that particlar thread as we all used something 'old fashioned'. I can't remember who she was in other postings.

I have just checked again and in earlier posts on the same thread the membership number is shown as Mags Jackson who signed out as Dolores.

Was that Mags in Bristol?

I've just found Mags Jackson on that thread. If you click on her name as if to send a PM you'll find she's no longer a member. People leaving has caused this problem in the past.

Claire... I clicked on what is showing as my name and number (number at bottom of screen different) on the thread and I can send a message to no one. If I try on the name that is showing my membership number at the bottom of the page it says no longer a member. But I am!!! And I have been for almost 5 and half years :-(

Hi Jacky :-)

It's a problem caused by old members leaving. It happened to me and spooked me out.

:-) Good to see you

Jacky,

Over the last few weeks I've been reading over some old threads....just idle curiosity really. There were some great threads.

However, whilst reading these old threads, many times I have seen my name against posts which I did not write. In fact, often the posts are signed by the person who wrote them, so it obviously wasn't me!! But there's not the usual delete facility in the box - like there is on one of your own posts.
Am I making sense so far?

I have, on more than one occasion, written to GR insisting they remove these as I do not want my name against posts I did not write. Who knows, one day you might discover your name against something truly awful.

As I said, some of the posts with my name against them have someone's name signed at the bottom. I'm fairly sure (though not certain) that these people are no longer with GR, and I think this is where the problem lies. There seems to be some glitch within the intricate workings (mechanical or mental) of GR which causes this, but they have yet to acknowledge the problem or address it.

K

P.S. personally I think it's disgusting that they can leave ex members postings on here to pick up current members names - and do sod all about it.

I can pm you on the posts showing your name & membership number but if they just show your name (diff number) the pm is blank.
Probably best to leave it as if you contact GR they will just delete the entire thread.

No no Tina, I think you've misunderstood..:)

It's because one or more members have left and their posts remain, and get tagged onto a current member, thereby taking that member's number.
If you have a look at who signed the posts, you will see who wrote them, rather than the board name. Those people have left, but their thread has been tagged onto the person who posted next to them.

Tina
I can assure you that the thread is screwed up and no "particular member" posted as "multiple" people.
All the post are genuine, and posted by individual members of the "Pinny Gang"

I was only looking over my old threads a few weeks back and saw my name against other members posts. These people have/had a different membership number than mine.

I think that I'm trying to say what Karen has said.

Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 15 Apr 2008 00:17

Tina - I know that the Pinny Gang threads were copied by a member on here. Maybe if that person (can't remember who?) is still around, that can verify waht I have said.

I think that the problem lays when a person deletes themselves all posts "bump up" to another persons number. I don't think I'm making sense, but know what I mean in my head :)

Blimey Deb - do you memorise membership numbers?
It's to do with the database of members I think.
Because the programming is incorrect, when a member deletes theirself the software still needs to assign a membership number to the post.
