Thanks everybody for your support and words of wisdom. I can't explain how I'm feeling today. Did some housework this morning (unheard of for me - lol). Had a visit from our daughter and family all the way from over the road. Good to have a play with our 2 little grand daughters, especially Molly who is such a little character - not 3 until May, and totally oblivious to all that is going on.

My sister heard from the coroner's court yesterday to say that the post mortem has been done, but Mum will not be released to the funeral directors until Monday at the earliest, just in case they need to re-examine her. I will be glad when this has all come to an end. It is all so clinical and impersonal.

In the meantime, I have been sorting out music to be played at the crematorium for the committal. One of the last trips Mum had was to see Starlight Express in Plymouth. She loved it so much, so we are using the actual song as we go in. For the committal itself, we are using an orchestral piece of music from Dances With Wolves. When we leave, we have found a piece sung by Jonathan Ansell (of G4 fame) called Down to the River to Pray. It is a really lovely track, and I hope will lift us all a bit as we leave.

At the chapel service prior to that we are starting with All Things Bright and Beautiful, a favourite for Mum, followed by Kum Ba Ya - a favourite of my late brother Douglas, and we thought that was very fitting. To end we are having Abide With Me which was played at Dad's funeral 20 years ago. I feel compelled to say a few words at the funeral, so hope that I will be composed enough on the day to do that. My sister doesn't feel able to do that. I have a few ideas in my head as to what I will say - just hope it all comes across ok.

I am so glad that I have all you good people here to share my thoughts with, and who care enough to read and respond. I dare say this will not be the last you have heard from me over the coming days and weeks.

Pauline,
You talk about saying a few words at the funeral.
When my mum died in 2004,I wrote down about 4 pages of my mum's character and where she'd been brought up etc.
One bit I put in was that...my mother was always right.....and the vicar that I had given some facts and stories about her said this...and a little voice from one of her friends said....that's our Grace........and everyone could hear her!
Writing these memories helped me to come to terms with the fact that she wasn't suffering anymore, and as the vicar said, let it be a celebration of her life.

In time you will remember the good times.

Some extra (((hugs)))for you.
