~Summer Scribe~ Report 22 Mar 2008 15:40

I was going downstairs for breakfast etc and sneezed, lost my balance and fell down 5 or 6 stairs. Was held up by my armpit on the hand rail... as you can imagine, have badly bruised said armpit and can't raise my left arm, have also strained all down my left arm. Fortunately the clatter of my walking stick hitting the radiator at the bottom alerted mum and dad.

Mum said we'll be the death of her. Have taken nurofen and codeine so I've maxed my pain killers but it doesn't seem to be helping a great deal.

Watching the ice skating on BBCi, which I probably wouldn't have discovered was on if I hadn't fallen.

Numpty or what, only me could be floored by a sneeze!
Your sympathy and humorous (good-natured) teasing is appreciated :-) ;-)

LOL Marion, at least if I'd been tiddly I wouldn't have felt it so bad LOL.

Julia, not sure where would get it from and if the armpit is a good place to put it with all the sweat glands there.

Have just whacked my heat pad on my sore bits.

Sorry you are suffering Liz, hope you feel better soon, maybe a hot bath or shower would help. good job when you get a place without stairs!

Liz

ouch ouch ouch, have fallen down stairs before (more than once) so know how you feel.

Now did you catch in on camcorder cos you could make some dosh out of it on Youve been framed.

D xx

P.S forgot to ask hows the walkinjg stick not hurt I hope.

~Summer Scribe~

~Summer Scribe~ Report 22 Mar 2008 16:10

Nope, no camcorder, dawn, sadly lol. Who'd have thought a sneeze could cause all that LOL.

The walking stick has taken one hell of a battering the last year or so, I think it might be time to get a new one as it's clinging on for dear life LOL.

No hole in stairs or damage to radiator thankfully PMSL And the mug that was in my left hand (hence the reason I was using my forearm on the handrail - that and I have trouble holding the rail) survived intact, I was still clutching it PMSL

Ann, I'd love a hot bath but can't get in or out and the shower would work but not sure how well I could wash myself with my left side all strained.

I'm using the heat pad and trying to keep gently moving so I don't stiffen right up.

Luckily I did manage to get back up the stairs a few hours later so that I could use my lap top and recover on my bed.

~Summer Scribe~ Report 22 Mar 2008 16:20

Ouchies, Kaz. I've done that before but usually only with two steps and could usually catch myself or someone is close enough to catch me. (((((hugs)))))

I guess it really does highlight how much I need a flat. If I'd been home alone I would have been stuck there for ages.

Wish I could pour you a cuppa down the line do take care and hope you feel better after a good night's sleep, it really shakes you up, I've come cropper from top to bottom twice, but then our stairs are all higgly piggly being in such an old place...... no I'd not been drinking, just careless!

~Summer Scribe~ Report 22 Mar 2008 17:28

Hi May, ours used to be higgly until bro paid for them to be ripped out and put in straight. I think I'd rather fall down the higgly ones LOL.

Ours is listed building so nor allowed to alter original features, OH has straightened the treads which worn but the depth of each is different, between 9 and 12 inches and I've only got short legs so we got a stair lift, OH won't use it although he's the disabled one with arterio sclerosis (spelling not sure) I just have the itis family(under control) but maybe getting lazy itis with the lift.

Oh! Summer what are you like?

Seriously I hope you are feeling better soon. Have you had it checked out by the doc?
Discovered the ice skating on the other day by mistake, and have been trying to remember it has been on, but saw a bit of it today.

Please take care of yourself, and try not to sneeze when you are negotiating the stairs.

PMSL Kay, I must have looked quite amusing, hanging from one arm clutching the cup and looking up all dazed. I was very much in the "but I only sneezed" frame of mind.

As soon as I move away from the heat pad I start to stiffen up and of course you can't use them overnight so I'm no doubt going to be in shocking pain tomorrow. Like I don't have enough pain. Dunno how I avoided the carpet burns on the back of my legs. LOL

May, ahh well ours isn't that old, was built in the 1920s, when we had our electric fuse box moved we found the original cards behind it. They stretched for about 15 years, very fascinating. We thought we'd be able to put a stair lift in but there's not enough space at the top and bottom for it to be fitted.
