It is my belief that whatever your opinion on the UK's role in the war in Iraq and in Afghanistan, our servicemen and women deserve our respect for their commitment and courage and we should be proud of them for serving their Queen and country!

I dont agree with war

but am proud of our soldiers whatever duty they are on, they are good roles models for this country and shoud be respected.

Its such a shame for them that they have been to a country to protect oil. People are getting fed up with the iraq situation and taking it out on the troops, they are sent where they are told to go.

I totally agree Rose, - they have no say in where they are sent to fight, but do so without question and great courage.

I for one am very proud of each and every one of them and they certainly have my respect and thanks x

My OH served 22yrs in the army and i as a wife served at his side as we were married before he joined and had the 3 children.

He served several tours of Ireland, Faulklands and Bosnia, we also lost a good few friends during these tours.

We have every right to be proud of our soldiers they join the army to serve Queen and country and thats exactly what they do.

Rose,

I echo your sentiments, I was so proud to wear my RN uniform in the 1970's and 80's and think that it is our duty to support our service personnel who aren't paid that well at all (certainly not at basic rank/rate level).

I did read that a serviceman in uniform in Peterborough where the wearing uniform in public hassle kicked off had been cheered in a shopping centre yesterday...so I guess its just a minority

Thanks for the thread by the way

So true, respect respect, they are our
protectors, pity they are on foreign land, they should be at home protecting home.
They are fighting a battle that cannot be won, the Afgans understand one thing,
"kill thy brother" they do not understand reason.
