There was an advert on the site which was inviting people to download an application. At that point your anti-virus software picked this up and warned you of the various types of viruses that could be contained.

This advert has now been removed from the site.

How many people had warning of a virus and who put the advert on the site GR or hacker?

I agree with you, An announcement is very important on this occasion.

I had noticed there were no adverts showing at this time, is anyone else seeing no adverts ? At least they are looking into the cause of this and accepting that there was a problem.

I would like to see a courtesy message placed on the boards with further advice from Genes themselves.

Thanks for letting us know Colin but disgusted by the treatment of GR to the customers of this site ;;;
and GR its lovely to have no adverts there at all less distracting ;;

Adverts are still there. I have FR bingo one at the top and an Open University one on the left as I'm writing this.

Ta, Colin, all adds have stopped now, but the "trojan was on here at 5.30ish this morning, and so were the adds, so at least GR have done something! Great.

Colin, cannot see any adverts showing at the moment.

I had a warning about the virus last week, but havent been online since then. I was just moving the mouse to click off GR and it brushed over the adverts and the virus was picked up immediately and blocked.

Agree with the majority on here saying GR should post something if members are contacting them with concerns.

Ive no doubt the adverts will be back sooner then we think.

Whilst everyone has done what we can do behind the scenes Genes need to advise on how to prevent this re occuring in the future.

Although they have removed the adverts at this time , this only prevents the re direction and the trojan from downloading. It does not offer security advice or a method of how to treat things now that the trojan has been allowed to access a computer or tell anyone what they should do now that they have been affected by this.

Many thanks for passing this message on. I too am appalled, not only by GR having adverts containing viruses but also by their totally uncaring attitude towards sorting it out (the adverts should have been removed on Thursday, not today!) and leaving GR members to sort it out between themselves!

I also note in their reply to you, Colin, they mention "what viruses could have been contained". No, sorry, it's not COULD have been, they definitely WERE contained!!

I also had an email from GR saying the same. The time of the email was 11.23 this morning. I clicked to turn a page on this site at 11.32 and the thingumyjig was stopped by my anti-virus!

I have no adverts now so hope it doesn't happen again
