Put extra clothes on and leave the doors and windows open. If you have a neighbour the children can go to send them and call somebody out to check it. Don't take risks.

And please let us know what happens.

Dawnie... it doesn't matter what is *doing it* with carbon monoxide... it kills, silently and stealthily no matter what the source. You may have been having symptoms for a while without even realising it.

YOU MUST GET YOUR HEATING, FLUE etc checked out. NOW,

Please.

This may be a silly question, and I agree when other's say you should get it checked out immediately, but if it was me I wouldn't know who to call. So who do you call when the carbon monoxide detector goes off? Do you call the gasboard or someone else?

Oh, and it's entirely possible that your cold could be symptoms.

Staffs Col Report 30 Jan 2008 17:37

Please don't ignore it call out the fire service or if you have gas ring the gas emergency number..PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T IGNORE YOUR ALARM

Turn off any gas appliances, open doors and windows. Stop using the appliances and get them checked by a British Gas engineer or another CORGI registered engineer. Alternatively, call Transco Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999.

If necessary also contact your doctor, and explain what you suspect.

Or the fire brigade..... I will google now about coal fires.

CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS DO NOT GO OFF FOR NO REASON

sorry to shout, but this is urgent!

Justice of Peace Report 30 Jan 2008 17:42

I have been informed that if in doubt a Fire brigade officer will call..... it is part of their remit........ putting it bluntly they would prefer to assist the able body rather than a dead one................

Joyce, you are absolutely right... also, the symptoms of slow poisoning mimic some of the symptoms Dawnie has anyway...... so I am really worried now.

Ann do you know if anyone can contact her???

My son's friend at Uni died from it...

Hope Dawnie is OK.
By the way I didn't know that this could happen with coal fires thought it was only gas.
Thanks for that.

Ok am back with new thingys to show if its present or not and its not changing colour.

Hubby just thrown into conversation oh it fell on the floor the other day dohhhhhhhh why not say before I do the mad woman chasing round act.

Old one has stopped bleeping and is showing the right lights to say it is working.

Gas boiler has only just been checked as have a contract with British Gas to do it and if they dont contact us to arrange it we always call them.

Chimney has been swept recently cos Tiddler and laddo love going in garden and watchng for the brish to come out the top. Hubby also just said stove got really hot earlier and he turned it down but didnt open damper so might of set it off.

Dont worry I keep checking the thingy hasnt changed colour and have ventilation going right through the house now, this is one thing I dont mess with and if it it changes in the slightest will be onto the fire brigade (any excuse for a fireman to come visiting)

Thank you for worrying and can promise you I am not taking it lightly and ignoring it

Hi Germaine... it is any fossil fuel, wood burners and bbq's can have the same effect... is why a bbq should never be used indoors.

Hello Rhoda, I think that is the presumption that Dawn is making, and is off to get a new detector to check it out, I think.

I know it is all supposition on our part that indeed Dawnie and family just might be in danger......hopefully not... but does anyone know or have direct contact with Dawnie.......because like the rest of you I want to ensure she do not install yet another detector and presume that all will be well....

I still think the gas board or fire service would be more than happy to come out and check...they did for my Mum and she had imagined it...they were still perfectly happy and said they ''preferred a dozen false calls to 1 real one''

Germaine Report 30 Jan 2008 18:14

Gld you are OK Dawn.
Thanks Daff just shows what good things we learn on here.
I do keep my chimney swept regular so am OK on that part. I learnt the hard way too but not carbon poisoning just setting fire to the chimney. Fire men said they didn't need an adress they just followed the smoke. Thank goodness for nosey neighbours I was sat in here and didn't have a clue. He went to my OH in the garage and said do you know your chimney is on fire OH thought he was joking said you hum it I will sing it.:-)
Think I will have to buy one of those detector things though.
