How much is that doggie in the window? (arf! arf!) The one with the waggley tail How much is that doggie in the window? (arf! arf!) I do hope that doggie's for sale
I must take a trip to California And leave my poor sweetheart alone If he has a dog, he won't be lonesome And the doggie will have a good home
How much is that doggie in the window? (arf! arf!) The one with the waggley tail How much is that doggie in the window? (arf! arf!) I do hope that doggie's for sale
I read in the paper there are robbers (roof! roof!) With flashlights that shine in the dark My love needs a doggie to protect him And scare them away with one bark
I don't want a bunny or a kitty I don't want a parrot that talks I don't want a bowl of little fishies He can't take a goldfish for a walk
How much is that doggie in the window? (arf! arf!) The one with the waggley tail How much is that doggie in the window? (arf! arf!) I do hope that doggie's for sale I do hope that doggie's for sale

Not so much a children's song ...but one from when I was young......
In the shoemaker's shop this refrain would never stop As he tapped away, working all the day (At his bench, there was he, just as busy as a bee) Little time to lose for the boots and shoes
But his heart went "pop" inside the little shop When a lovely girl set 'em all a-whirl She had come to choose some pretty dancing shoes And he heard her say in a charming way
Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing Dancing, dancing all the day Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing Dancing all my cares away
(Then he tapped and he stitched for his fingers were bewitched) And he sewed a dream into every seam (Making shoes, oh, so neat just like magic on her feet) And he hoped she'd know that he loved her so
But she danced, danced, danced as though she were entranced Like a spinning top all around the shop On her dainty feet she whirled into the street And he heard her say as she danced away
Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing Dancing all my cares away Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing Dancing all my cares away

Col, I remember that song too! my Mum always used to sing it to me and it made me feel sad too! However I didn't know it was about drugs. I suppose it's like Ring a Ring a roses which was about the plague or something. I didn't know that either.
All, I remember 2 songs my Mum sang
Tell me the stories of Jesus I love to hear things he would ask me to tell me if he were here. Scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea. Storeis of Jesus tell them to me.
and
Jesus bids a shine then for all around. Making kinds of darkness in this world are found. Sin and want and sorrow, so we must shine. You in your small corner and I in mine.
I may have got the words wrong in the second but does anyone know them?

My mum would sing this song.
The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot (
He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot, And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot.
He sent a note to Santa For some soldiers and a drum, It broke his little heart When he found Santa hadn't come.
In the street he envies all those lucky boys, Then wanders home to last year's broken toys. I'm so sorry for that laddie, He hasn't got a daddy, The little boy that Santa Claus forgot.
Spoken: (You know, Christmas comes but once a year for every girl and boy, The laughter and the joy they find in each brand new toy. I'll tell you of a little boy that lives across the way... This little fella's Christmas is just another day. He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot, And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot.)
In the street he envies all those lucky boys, Then wanders home to last year's broken toys. I'm so sorry for that laddie, He hasn't got a daddy, The little boy that Santa Claus forgot.

Little man you've had a busy day
Little man, you're cryin' I know why you're blue Someone took your kiddy-car away Better go to sleep now Little man, you've had a busy day
Johnny won your marbles Tell you what we'll do Dad'll get you new ones right away Better go to sleep now Little man, you've had a busy day
You've been playin' soldiers The battle has been won The enemy is out of sight Come along there soldier Put away your gun The war is over for tonight
Time to stop your schemin' Time your day was through Can't you hear the bugle softly say Time you should be dreamin' Little man, you've had a busy day

Colin!
That was a nasty slur by grown ups who did not like dragons!!
Puff was a lovely natured well behaved good dragon!
I was four when a student teacher with long blonde hair and a beard taught us that at school!

Over in Killarney Many years ago, Me Mither sang a song to me In tones so sweet and low. Just a simple little ditty, In her good ould Irish way, And l'd give the world if she could sing That song to me this day.
"Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, hush now, don't you cry! Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, that's an Irish lullaby." Oft in dreams I wander To that cot again, I feel her arms a-huggin' me As when she held me then. And I hear her voice a -hummin' To me as in days of yore, When she used to rock me fast asleep Outside the cabin door.

There's a little white duck (quack) Sitting in the water. A little white duck (quack) Doing what he oughter. He took a bite of a lily pad, Flapped his wings and he said, "I'm glad I'm a little white duck, Sitting in the water." Quack, Quack, Quack.
There's a little green frog (glumph) Swimming in the water. A little green frog (glumph) Doing what he oughter. He jumped right off of the lily pad The little duck bit. And he said "I'm glad, I'm a little green frog, Swimming in the water, Glumph, Glumph, Glumph."
There's a little black bug (bzz) Floating on the water. A little black bug (bzz) Doing what he oughter. He tickled the frog on the lily pad That the little duck bit. And he said, "I'm glad, I'm a little black bug, Floating on the water. Bzz! Guzz! Bzz!"
There's a little red snake (hiss) Playing in the water. A little red snake (hiss) Doing what he oughter, He frightened the duck and the frog so bad, He ate the little bug, And he said, "I'm glad I'm a little red snake, Playing in the water. Hiss, Hiss, Hiss."
Now there's nobody left Sitting in the water Nobody left Doing what they oughter There's nothing left but the lily pad The duck and the frog Ran away - I'm sad 'Cause there's nobody left Sitting in the water Boo! Hoo! Hoo!

Carol - that Lula Bye Bye song has gone through generations in our family! I now sing it to my own grandaughter of 7 months! I think it will continue on and on through the generations to come!
Another one my Gran used to sing was Mr Sandman and You Are My Sunshine.
I used to sing these to my daughter and at the age of 2yrs she would sing the whole of You Are My Sunshine followed by a whopping great kiss - and I'd get all teary-eyed.
