Still looking for family members. Any advice will be helpful. I'm trying to find out what happened to Francis James Wood born 06/04/1864 in Greenock Scotland. His parents were Francis Wood and Mary Love. 2 of his brothers emigrated to USA one in 1887 and one in 1890. The last place I found him was on the 1881 census aged 16. Any ideas as to where I can look to see if he also emigrated. He could be known as James as he had another brother called Francis born in 1866. Thank you. |

Does ‘still looking’ mean that you have asked before about this? |

Having two children with the same first name usually means the older one has died. How sure are you that there were actualy two borthers and have not just taken the age from a census. |

If the 1911 Census is the right one, Francis was probably at sea in other census years. |

Thank you everyone for the information. I am ploughing my way through all this information but finding it difficult to confirm whether this Francis James Wood is my relative. |

I have the marriage cert for Francis James Wood''s parents. They are Francis Wood born c 1840 in Ayrshire on 23/08/1861 to Mary Love born c 1840. His siblings names were Gilbert - Christina - Donald and Francis. His brother Francis born 03/07/1866 is my great grand father. The Francis James I am trying to trace was living in Greenock on the last census I could find in 1881. Its confusing that there are 2 boys with the name Francis but the one I'm tracing was registered as Francis James and the other one just Francis (my great grandfather). |
