WOOD - At St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Hull, by the Rev Dr Wilkinson, Francis G Wood, Engineer, to Jane Brown, second daughter of Mr Robert McCover, engineer, Greenock.

Greenoch Telegraph and Clyde Shipping Gazette 13 Sept 1892

Does read Francis G not J Wood but this is obviously a mistake.

Thank you so much everyone for all the information. I will stop looking for now as I am getting very confused with the daughters of this couple now. Winifred especially
seems to have surnames of McMillan and Naylor as well as Wood. I will now look at another family member. As you might realise that I am not very good at finding information because I use Scotlands People for all the information I have and not good at the England information. Regards

Winifred appears to be another adopted daughter. Her birth is given by ErikaH on the post 3 Mar 2025 14:04, mother Sarah McMillan. I posted the 1939 register just above this with the same date of birth given to Winifred as her BC which strongly suggests this is the same person. Naylor is her married name.

Marriages Dec 1955 (>99%)
FENWICK Eliza SIMPSON Hull 2a 522
>>NAYLOR James H WOOD Hull 2a 522
SIMPSON Charles FENWICK Hull 2a 522
>>WOOD Winifred M NAYLOR Hull 2a 522

James Henry Wood (known as Harry) and Winnie Wood were badminton partners before marriage. I was reading some newspaper articles yesterday where they were mentioned. They were very successful. In fact one of the death notices for her reads

NAYLOR (nee Wood) Winnie. Passed away peacefully on Sat 3rd June. The lady who introduced junior badminton players to the Hull League. Many happy memories.

Winifred's probable illegitimate birth was posted by Erikah on 3rd March at 14:04.
Her birth surname was Macmillan.

Then she was taken in by Francis and Jane (Francis may perhaps have been her father, for all we know, although there's no documentary proof).
She is listed as Wood in 1911 and 1921 censuses.

In 1921, she has her birth surname Macmillan as a middle name.

In 1939 she's listed as Wood, which was still her name at the time.
The name Naylor was added later, after her marriage to James H Naylor in 1955.

That 1901 matches the info about the mother on Winifred's birth cert.................which is on Scotland's People!! And I used my own credits to look at it for you.......................

She was McMillan when she was born illegitimately to Sarah

Jane DID NOT have any children.................she and Francis took in Winifred and Jessie, and gave them the surname Wood.

You've been given all possible info about these people..............take your time to read and evaluate it.

The man who married Jane is 100% your relation

Just an irrelevant comment -

I though Llowarch must surely be a mistranscription , perhaps of Howarth - but no!
It's an actual name.

Frank and Mary married in Glasgow in 1899, and Frank was born in Oswestry in 1877.
