David Report 7 Sep 2007 19:51

Hi Carol, get well soon, I am trying to find details about my grand- parents, Robert Campbell and Isabella Ross Campbell, nee Cumming. They were married in Glasgow in 1912, they had a daughter (Violet) in 1913 but were divorced in November 1918.
Robert was born 12 March 1889 at Paricknow, Drymen Stirlingshire, Scotland. Robert had been a police officer in Glasgow but emigrated to USA in 1921,he went to stay with his uncle, Alex Paterson at 5524 Greenway Avenue, Philadelphia on 13 June 1921,he was accommpanied by a lady and two children, but what happened to him after that is a complete mystery. It is believed that Isabella went to the USA in the late 1920s with a sister, either Mary or Ellen, Isabella was born 24 January 1894 at 71 Saltmarket Glasgow, her parents were George and Margaret (Maggie) Cumming, but after that there is complete blank, hoping you can help and back to work soon

Hi David

Do you know what Robert's occupation was? There are a couple of possibilites in the 1930 census, though none in Philadelphia itself, he could have moved and the occupation would help to narrow this down, if not, I'll give you the details of the possibilites and you can see what you think.

Hi Carol,Robert was a police sergeant in Glasgow from 1909-1913 then left to join the army and served 1914-1918,rejoined the police but left on medical grounds in 1920, emigrated 1921. According to his police record Robert's profession was as a Cabinet-makers Sander, hopes this is of some help, hope you are feeling better and on the mend

Hello Carol

Is it possible you can do a check for Maurice E Smyth for me, it seems that on Ancestry passenger ships he is indexed as having been on board a ship for California. My friend who only has English ancestry said it was the first name shown when she put it in search list, don't know whether he would be crew or passenger year between 1910-1925 we think.

Thank you
Frances

Hi there,
I have a mystery person I am trying to locate the birth of. His name is William Ernest CURLE. . He married Sylvia Enid Gallagher in 1929, So I am assuming he would have been born anywhere between 1890 and 1912. His wife was born 1910 in Sydney NSW Australia and he also married and died there too, But I am trying to find a birth. for William.
He was not born in NSW Australia. I am hoping he was born in US/Canada . As My father in Laws birth father was a French/Canadian Sailor...hoping for the match...
Thanking you in advance., Sorry it is all the info I have
Katie,

Carol

Hi Carol,
Thanks for the reply.
At this stage with just starting looking at the USA, any info on any Sousby would be great. I can then start sifting through them. I am mainly interested in the ones who came from the North East ( Co. Durham)
I know there is a Soulsbyville in California and I e-mailed the County Supervisor there about 2 years ago. He answered me, but you could tell there was little interest.
If there is any particular ones, though I am not sure if they went to USA or not, it would be my bith Mother and her two Children. Her name was Lillian Powell ( Nee Soulsby) born 1925 at Tudhoe Co. Durham. Her son Durance Powell born about 1952 and her daughter Alana Powell born about 1954. They would have been born in Co. Durham UK.
I have been looking for them for about 3 years now, and many adverts i n the North East Papers and various searches have not produced any results.
I now think they may have emmigrated but to where is a differant matter. The last I heard of them was some 42 years ago.
I live in Cape Town South Africa so it is not so easy to "pop' into records offices.
If you can help it would be great.
Best regards
Barry

Hello Carol

Many thanks for looking up my 3 families.

I don't think you have found the right Nellis family
Was looking for John EDWARD Nellis b 1907, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The censuses you found were for John J. Nellis.
I know he married Cissie Ivy Tassell, but in 1930 she was with her family! as you found for me, thank you very much.

Any chance of finding Michigan marriages in Grand Rapids? Looking for the above people John Edward Nellis and Cissie Tassell married after 1930.

Dorothy Boardman was interesting. However on the 1930 census for D. Fern Boardman in Grand Rapids, does it give her surname (Boardman) you probably just missed it off your reply.

Does your sub get you into everything in USA and Canada i.e. Michigan Deaths, B. Columbia Deaths, Canadian Immigrant Record, etc etc.

I have a list of about 10 look ups I would like on various sites I have found, but cannot see the info, as I only have UK Ancestry.

Thank you very much indeed for looking up the above censuses. Much appreciated.

Regards
Jo
