Could someone please help me with a look-up in London. I'm searching for a Mary Elizabeth Lewis whose father's name is John Lewis, she was born approximately 1896/7 and have a possible district of Holborn for a birth register. Could anyone help with this information please? Regards, Ben.

I cannot find a Mary Elizabeth with John as father on the 1901. Do you have any more information on either mother or father or other family member so i can pinpoint her- there are rather a lot of likely ones to check every family! Alice

Many thanks for replying. I do have a marriage certificate for Mary Elizabeth Lewis, she was married in 1915 to a John James McAdam in West Rainton, County Durham. Going off what my grandfather has told me, Mary Elizabeth may have been born in Canning Town of London, the only birth that comes near is in Holborn. This is all the information I have on Mary Elizabeth and John Lewis, her father. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, Ben.

Hi Alice, once again thankyou for replying. On Mary Elizabeth's marriage certificate it states that her father, John Lewis, was a Miner, Thankyou for following this up. Regards, Ben.

hello again Ben sorry i have searched all the likely elizabeth marys in london - none of them seem to have a father John. i wonder if they moved out to a mining community - seems an odd occupation for a man in London. I will look in County drham for her on the 1901 Alice

Sorry Ben, I have not managed to find any likely matches for all 3 of them. It seems likely they moved out of london but strange I don't seem to be able to find them anywhere. If you are pretty sure of her birth place and year I would buy the certificate. You will then know her mother's maiden name and have the address where they lived, also her father's occupation which may have changed. You might at least be able to find her parents on an earlier census and mum may be easier to find on the 1901. Sorry i have not been much help. someone else may just strike lucky for you though so don't give up! Alice

Thankyou for that info, Jess. Is there any chance that I could get the image for that entry just so I can keep it on file as they seem to be a very elusive family. Many thanks, Ben.
