Please would some kind person find a birth reference for GEORGE HENRY PERRY he was apperently born in Chatham, Kent, according to 1901 census, where he was age 44 living in Alverstoke, Southampton. He married FRANCES HENRIETTA FLETCHER, April 10 1875, they were both age 19, this was in New Brompton, Kent. George's father was ............yes youv'e guessed it George ! I've looked on free bmd and he's not there. Thank you in advance Carley

Have you checked other censuses to see if his birthplace and age are consistent? nell

Chatham Kent registers in Medway. I have checked every quarter 1855-1857 and he is not there. Liz x

I've looked on family search for the 1881 census, but its a no show.

It seems he might not have been born in Kent. Birth registration was not compulsory until 1875, so he may simply not have been registered. Have you got all the census info on him? I see there's a gap of 7 years between Lily and Flora, perhaps another child was born then who died or is staying elsewhere? nell

I see Rose is on the case! As none of us can find him in 1881, he must have been mistranscribed. But he is consistent in saying he was born in Chatham. Maybe he was there as a small child and thought he was born there? nell

Yes Frances (wife) was from Barbados, just going through he process of ordering her certificate too. I was only taking the 1856 date for George from his marriage certificate, hoping that this would be the most reliable age. The Naval info rings correct, as his profession says Naval Engineer.

Carley Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no sign of his birth reg................ Incidentally, 1881 shows that Nell was on the ball with her comment about another child between the two girls. It looks as though George b 1880 died, and the one on the later census was named after him................. Rose
