Find Ancestors

I am looking to find Elizabeth James on any census prior to her marriage in February 1881. I have today received her marriage certificate which gives her father as Edmund James (a farmer) and her age as 37 at date of marriage. Every census after her marriage gives her place of birth as Penrith in Cumbria (Cumberland) but I can find no trace of her (or her father). Can you help??? TIA Bev X

37 is quite old, was she deff a spinster when she married.

in 1861 Elizabeth born 1803 Penrith is married to a John James so likely not that one

oh well, was worth a try I guess! We really need the 1881 entry to get going don't we!?

Ok Guys (and Gals lol) Elizabeth James married James Harvey on 27 Feb 1881. As stated above on the certificate, she gives her age as 37 and her father as Edmund James, a farmer. She reckons that she is a spinster nad her address is given as Sunnyside, Blundell Sands. On the 1881 census I can find her with her husband as follows:- Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability James HARVEY Head M Male 32 Ireland Sailor Elizabeth HARVEY Wife M Female 38 Penrith, Cumberland, England I know I have the right couple as the address is the same, 187 Grafton Street, Toxteth Park for the groom and the 1881Census. Hoping you can help:-) Bev X ps. dont know if will help but the witnesses were a John Hawkin and Bessey Craig.

Does Elizabeth have an occ on her marriage certificate?

FC No - there's no occupation on the marriage cert (or the 1881 census come to that) On the 1891 and 1901 census' though she has put down Dressmaker (at home) as her occupation. Bev X

I guess it could be that Edmund was his correct name yet he was known by a middle name perhaps?

That's the one I posted earlier DD but in 1861 Dad is there too by the name of John, but like I said previously maybe his full name was Edmund John James?

The 1851 census (Derbyshire) the mother is a widow and Elizabeth's middle name is Lowthian, can send image if needed. It wasn't always necessary to say the father was deceased on the marriage certificate. Cheryl
