Find Ancestors

Hi been on freebmd, 1837 online, cannot find mothers death, trying to find DOB & mothers maiden name, Death of Judith A Gilling, husband Keith m Gilling, died first half of 2004, in whitby, north yorkshire, Any help most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Freebmd stops at 1910, so it won't be there. Not sure how recent 1837online is. nell

Not sure about 1837 on line, but ancestry BMD (beta) only seems to go to 1983 and ordinary search on ancestry seems to be 2002. Germaine x

You won't find any deaths from 2004 online. 1837 and Ancestry stop at 2003, and I don't know if either are planning to add any more recent bmd's to what's already online. Events as recent as 2004 probably aren't even at the GRO yet. Do you mean that you are trying to find Judith's maiden name (which I thought was Wright) or do you mean you want to find Judith's mother's maiden name (which won't be on Judith's death certificate, but will be on Judith's birth certificate if you can find her date of birth from the death certificate)? If Judith died in the area where you live, then it may be easier to go to the local register office and see if they can help you there. Kath. x

Yes I am after Judiths mothers MMN, as I was given a birth for judith with MMn as Wright but I thought this was her mothers married name, so need to find birth & then can look for death, have I got that right, still cannot find anything though.

Maiden names have been on women's death certs since at least 1987. nell

So you think Judith's surname at death was GILLING..is that right?If so, there is one death entry on 1837 for JUDITH GILLING in Feb 2004. I do not have credits to view the entry though Sam

I've checked on 1837online, now that the 2004 entries are on there, but there is no death of a Judith Gilling in 2004. Kath. x

Hi Sam, I'm lucky (or unlucky) that my son spent £25 on credits with the Christmas offer, without realising that Ancestry would have the bmd's on so soon. I think he was a bit put out!! Kath. x

There is also another birth for a Judith A. Wright, mother's maiden name Jeffrey, although it is not in the Don Valley area. This is the reference just in case:- Sept. qtr. 1947, E. Elloo (or E. Elloe), 3b, 97 Although on saying that, the death record does not give a middle initial, it's just Judith Gilling. Kath. x
