looking for campbell family on 1881 1891 1901 census. I have a william campbell living with grandparents on the 1881 census but need him on the 1891 1901 in case he is with parents+siblings which would give me there details. William is aged 7 on the 1881 census and his birth place is given as woolwich, kent. I belive his mother would be Charlotte and his father John but this a educated guess based on a free bmd search based on his grandparents surname and the campbell surname Thanks Darrell

Paul are you still on your knees, pmsl ???? i've been looking into this Joel Young too, have you seen this? Deaths Jun 1895 ------------------------- Young Joel 79 Wincanton 5c 324 which would make him born about 1816, and there is a Joel Young in the census records, born 1816, Bruton, Somerset. in 1861 he is living with his parents but no marital status is given, in 1871 he is with wife Ann, and in 1891 he is an inmate in a hospital, status is widow. the Joels death that you found in Bristol...... well i have found him in 1861 - married to a Mary, and in 1841 with parents in Bristol, but no sign in 1851 , mmmmm bit of a deju vu feeling again lol, maybe 1851 is your jinx year, lol can't wait for that marriage certificate though now............. Hi Jane, Ok, I got the marriage Certifcate today and it ties in with the IGI christening stuff that I got and the Census information you kindly got for me. 15th Sept 1842, Parish Church, Heytesbury Joel Young, 24 years old, A Tailor living in Heytesbury, Father ****** (See below) Young who is a Gardener marries Emma Giles, 21 years old, no occupation, living in Heytesbury, Father is William Giles who is a Saddler Now, the kind man at Warminster registry office (Mr Christopher Hatcher) checked a few possible J Young deaths in the Warminster area between 1842 - 1850 as I believe he died in order for John Terrell to take over and do his bit (since then you have stunned me with the Emma, Emma Mary & Arabella Young in a Workhouse in 1851 census so we know he died after this time) . . Anyway, Mr hatcher pointed out the Bristol Death too which was most generous but I don't know . . Now, there are three Joel Young marriages between 1840 - 1900, my Warminster one and the following two In O-D 1864 in Bath District 5C-1196, A Joel Young marries (possibly to an Ann Meaden) In O-D 1851 in Sheffield 22-659, A Joel Young marries (number of possible women) Now, Bath is VERY close to Bristol so if our man got married in 1842, had two children with Emma Giles then what happened in 1850? He doesn't die, could there be a divorce?? or did he run off and leave Emma Young + two children in the poorhouse for the 1851 census to re-emerge later? In the 1841 census, what is the name of Joel Young's father and cna you give their occupations? I have ****** it on purpose as I want you to say a name and me go Bingo or wrong one The Wincanton death looks really good too as that is close to Heytesbury and there are birth certs in Wincanton for Arabella Young in 1850 although my Emma Mary or Emma or Mary is definitely a Warminster birth, just many to choose from. I wonder what happened to them pre 1851 to end up in a workhouse??? Did the 1851 census say the name of the Workhouse? Was John Terrell also in the workhouse or working there? I have got to order more certificates as this is getting juicy. I can't believe that after all this, my Mary Young/Lewis/Terrell/Woods wasn't even a Terrell !! She was an Emma for a start and a Young/Lewis/Young/Woods and her mother Emma seems to had a share of bad luck too. Mmmm, I am going for birth certs of Emma/Mary Young and Arabella Young first as they will be easy and then i will go for Joel Young death cert but I dont really know anything that will support whether it's a good match . . . Is he a Tailor (50 years after his marriage), the children wont be with him or his wife so I cant use their names . . I have nothing to go on. Ahhh I have been looking for a Mary Terrell / Mr Lewis marriage between 1861-1871 but maybe mummy told her the truth the day before her wedding and she married as Emma/Mary Young? I will look again and I need to find Emma Giles/Young marriage to Mr John Terrell. Anyway, tell me what you think? Before I go to pay homage to my 'Jane from Loughborough' statuette that I have made in my livingroom, I want to tell everyone else on this messageboard that your family trees look so much easier than mine am I am so jealous! Never give up when you hit a stumbling block, keep looking and the answer will come

Jane, The first census you showed is spot on 1841 Somerset, High st. William Young abt 1791 Somerset, England Bruton Somerset AG LAB Mary Young abt 1791 Somerset, England Bruton Somerset Joel Young abt 1821 Somerset, England Bruton Somerset TAILOR Elizabeth Young abt 1828 Somerset, England Bruton Somerset Carloline Young abt 1831 Somerset, England Bruton Somerset as the 1842 Marriage Census shows Joel Young as a Tailor and Father William as a Gardener so that is perfect !!!! That means Bristol Boy is wrong and brings your Wincanton Death in 1895 right to the forefront . . . Heyyy ??? 1851 Unmarried !!!! Joel you naughty boy 1861 mmm undecided about his status . . Joel you naughty boy! 1871 married to Ann . . . toot toot <GASP> the sheffied connection. Good spot Jane <God my head is spinning> Wait a mo, Joel Young and a Ann Meaden get married (not neccessarily to each other) in Bath O-D 1864. The other marriage of Joel Young is in O-D 1851 where a Ann Dickens gets married in SHEFFIELD Are you telling me that Journeyman Tailor, Joel Young left his son with his step brother, his wife and two kids in a poor house, moved back home and registered himself as unmarried in the 1851 census. Went travelling again and ended up home with his parents in 1861 as not neccessarily married and then set up home with her in the late 1860's after a 1864 wedding ? Shocking !!!!! That doesn't bring Sheffield in to it though unless he married both! he marries Ann Dickens in Sheffield and spends a bit of time there, she dies and he head home for 1861 census, meets Ann Meaden and then they all go back up to Sheffield and she drops a sprog and then it is home time for 1871??/ Right, the iron is hot and I need to make a note of all these certificates I need to confirm this mishmash family and put it all to bed . . I will post my list later and you cna see if I missed anything out. Hey Jane, the good news is that my next family branch I need unrooting is the Davies family from Ystradgynlais, Wales so it will not get any easier :-) P.S I got the inspiration for your statuette as Close Encounters was playing on the DVD and I was eating Steak with melted Mozzerella, Aparagus and Mash Potato The statuette was made out of mash and although it did look good at first, it has now started to condense a little and the aparagus tips that were your eyes have disappeared. I have got some modelling clay so i will start from scratch :-)

Jane, Oh my god. I think i am going to be sick !!! Emma Mary Young/Terrell marries a Lewis and then in 1871, she marries a John Young 1847-ish from Wiltshire and they have two children . . . You gave me the 1871 census of William Twiner abt 1843 Herefordshire, England Head Risca ****John Young abt 1845 Wiltshire, England Lodger Risca Monmouthshire and that got me thinking . . Emma Mary Young has brother called John Young born in 1845 (living with Uncle John Giles) John Young dies in 1871 aged 30 and there is a coronary enquiry in to his death and they have put 'Natural Death caused by disease of the heart' Do you think Emma Mary Young & John Young are brother and sister and he topped himself after: 1) Finding out that he was knocking up his actual blood sister 2) Everyone else found outb in the village and gave him a ribbing Maybe the coroner did Mary a favour and put he died from a broken heart on the report in exchange for favours so there would not be an investigation I am feeling pretty horrible now but my Nan has been going on at me that their is a scandal where someone marries a relative like a Thomas marries a girl and her father is the step brother of Thomas brother or soemthing like that. Maybe its more hardcore and it is brother/sister confused by the family moving from pillar to post, country to country PMSL !!!

Jane, You know Mary Lewis marriage to John Young in 1871 made no sense at all i.e Marriage 12th June 1871 Newport Register Office John Young, 27 years Old, Colliery Labourer, Living in Risca, Father is John Young who is a Tailor. marries Mary Lewis, 23 years old, Living in Risca, Father is Joseph Lewis who is a deceased Farm Labourer Well, I will put lunch on the fact that Joseph Lewis, deceased farmer is actually the father of first husband Frederick James Lewis born 1847 and the reason why she put this is not because she was trying to hide the fact she was previously married but she didn't want to put the same as what John Young put Father = JOHN (Not Joel) YOUNG (A Tailor !!!!) and he is not marked as deceased adding further to the 1895 death in Wincanton Shivers OOoooooooooooo Have you found an 1851/1861 census for Frederick J Lewis. I bet his father is Joseph Lewis, Farmer Paul

Jane

Jane Report 19 Nov 2006 21:09

Paul you know i think you've cracked it..................... you always knew there was something fishy about the marriage details !!! theres a few options in 1851 for Frederick, but no Joseph as father though i'm afraid.......... Frederick Lewis( Thomas,Marth) abt 1845 Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales Son Newport Monmouthshire father = mariner Frederick Lewis (William,Jane) abt 1847 Risca, Monmouthshire, Wales Son Risca Monmouthshire father = collier Frederick Lewis abt 1842 London, England Grandson St Woollos Monmouthshire grandfather = Ambrose Wild - retired pawnbroker or is there a chance he would be in England??
