Hi Everyone,
I have been looking for a 1939 register record but cannot find it.

For our reference -
in1921 (also in 1911) she's in a children's home:
Bea Wallace in the 1921 England Census Name Bea Wallace Gender Female Age 14 Years 6 Months Relation to Head Inmate Orphanhood Mother Dead Estimated Birth Year 1907 Birth Place Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England Residence Date 1921 Residence Place Middlesbrough, Yorkshire (North Riding), England Education Whole-Time Place of Work 78 Grange Rd, E Mbr'o Inhabited Y Ward Exchange Institution Children's Homes 78 Grange Road East Middlesbrough Parliamentary Division Middlesbrough Pb, East Div. Registration District Middlesbrough Registration District Number 535 Sub registration district Middlesbrough East Sub Registration District Number 2 Respondent Miss Rasbeny Enumeration District Name Middlesbrough Cb Enumeration District 8 Schedule 67 Schedule Type Code I Page number 1 Household Members (Name) Age Relationship Ethel Gertrude Rsabury 40 Years 9 Months Officer May Robinson 6 Years 3 Months Inmate Jane Ellen Nichol 12 Inmate Ivy Harris 12 Years 6 Months Inmate Mary Piercy 13 Years 4 Months Inmate Bea Wallace 14 Years 6 Months Inmate [and others]
She died unmarried, in 1986, in Westminster.
It's possible that her 1939 entry hasn't been linked to her death, and therefore remains closed.

Anyone born in 1906 should be an open record.
If she volunteered for war service and was in barracks, her name might not be listed………..clutching at straws, perhaps

Is there any way of me checking if she volunteered online? Or would this be a request to the MOD?

My mother’s ATS cohort were in barracks And were listed as such in the 1939 register.
Beatrice could have joined any if the three services and you would need some details before approaching the MOD.

She had three sisters...
Clarissa May 10/05/1898 Ruth Violet 07/07/1901 Edith Maud 19/03/1904
Can't find anything on Clarissa or Edith but Ruth was in Middlesbrough Poor Law Union in 1911 (same place as Beatrice was in 1921) and was a servant in 1921. She married in 1923 to Hewison and died 1979
Their father was alive until 1929 and their mother died in 1907. In 1911 he is in prison in Dorset (which might explain why Ruth and Beatrice were in institutions) and in 1921 he is back in Middlesbrough. Clarissa is not on the 1901 census but I can't find a death for her.
Did you know about these? Doesn't help finding Beatrice in 1939 (only one I can find in 1939 is Ruth)

There are no children with the parents Robert and Amelia in 1901.
Possibly Clarissa's death?

That could be Edith in 1921, if her age has been put at 16 years 3 months by mistake.
Edith Maud would have been 17 years and 3 months at the time of the census on 19 June 1921.
ADDED: The stated ages of other inmates on that 1921 census record are not all correct. For instance, there's an Edith Firth, born Middlesbrough, said to be 17 years 3 months. In 1939 she's still at the orphanage, now as assistant matron, with DOB said to be 10 March 1904 - which fits with her stated age in 1921.
BUT - she was actually born July-Sept 1903 (Edith Mary Firth)

Unfortunately, there were lots of Edith Wallaces.
If she moved to some other part of the country between 1921 and 1939, we have little hope of tracing her, especially if an incorrect DOB is given, as is often the case in 1939. Even less hope if she married during that time.

Edith married in 1943 Liverpool.
I was unaware of a Clarissa Wallace! I will have to order the birth certificate to confirm.
Thank you everyone for your efforts! I really hope to find out about Beatrice, she had moved from Middlesbrough to London by 1944 and I am trying to work out when exactly she did travel down.
Her mother Amelia died 1907, with her father Robert remarrying in 1924 to a Florence Day who I believe died in 1955, but I can’t seem to find her on the 1939 register as well, apparently Beatrice was living with Florence up until she moved to London, this could be wrong though.
Either Beatrice and her family told a few lies or I’m just not very good with the 1939 register… :-D :-S

As an unmarried woman Beatrice would have been eventually ‘called up’ to work in certain occupations eg, land girl, timber Jill, transport - all sorts of things.
My aunt couldn’t leave her sick mother so was sent to work for the Post Office, where she worked until she retired.

That's definitely Clara's death. Newspaper report 21 August 1900....
At Middlesbrough, yesterday, Clara Wallace, aged two years and three months, whose parents reside at 13, Chipchase Street, Linthorpe, was run over and killed by an electric tramcar whilst running across the road to join some other children.
There is a report of the inquest in the Northern Echo 22 August 1900.
13, Chipchase Street is where Robert Charles and Amelia Augusta Wallace are living in the 1901 census.

Thank you so much for this information.
What awful news about Clara! Sounds horrific.
ArgyllGran, the 1939 record you’ve posted is an interesting one, Beatrice was apparently a keen cook, this could be a pure coincidence though.
