Easily found on freebmd.org.uk.

There isn’t’t a corresponding birth with that middle name, so presumably not born in England or Wales.

Genes Reunited don’t give help on here.

The paying members do

Next time you ask for help, please give dates….and say if you’ve actually looked for info anywhere

No-one on here is likely to ‘know’ anything - they will have to search

ErikaH Report 24 Jul 2025 15:24

According to the record of her death in 2003, she was born 16 April 1924

How did you latch on to the name?

Where does the name Clark come into the mix?

If you want further info, you will need to buy a copy of the marriage cert, as there is no online record of her apart from that and her death

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 24 Jul 2025 17:37

They had a son, born in 1950.

Perhaps he is the informant on her death cert . If so, his address will be given.

As Jacqueline's death was registered in Portsmouth, her son may be the man on the Gosport ER in 2003-2007.

Just to add, in case it's of interest:

On Electoral Rolls -

In 1949 - 50, Jacqueline and Robert were listed at 34 Woodlea road, Stoke Newington.

In 1953-57, they were listed at 7 Earlsmead Road, Tottenham.

1965 - 72 they were at 20 Stamford Road, West Ham.
Their son is listed with them in 1970 - 72.

I don't see his birth in England/Wales/Scotland.

Strangely, this Probate record says he died in 1994 - a typo??:

Royce, Robert Arthur, of 87 St John's Road, Ryde, IOW, died 11 February 1994.
Administration 22 March [1995 ] Winchester. Not exceeding £125000. 9552408238W

If you need further assistance, Glenn, post the name of the father of the ‘very elderly’ person you are trying help, and say when the father died, and where

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 25 Jul 2025 12:47

If you mean that Robert is your friend's father, I wonder if your friend thinks that 75 is "very elderly" !

It's all relative!

Dear Friends,
Just a very quick update
Have been given marriage certificate of Robert and Jacqueline which took place on 11/10 /1948 Stoke Newington Register Office
Sadly both fathers had passed and they were known as Herbert Peppiatt,Journeyman Cabinet Maker and Robert Arthur Royce, Carpenter.
I will try and add a little more should i find leads.

I wonder where Herbert Peppiatt came from as this is unusual Sir Name.
Once again thank you for your valued help ,
Glenn.

ErikaH Report 26 Jul 2025 14:29

Who was the father of your ‘very elderly’ friend?

You haven’t answered my query about the name CLARK

What was the GROOM’s occupation?

What addresses did the couple give?

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 26 Jul 2025 14:37

Glenn

Using www.freebmd.org.uk ( it’s free as per the name) and putting in surname Pepp* first name Herbert I could see there have been several Herbert Peppiatts.

Try this yourself and see if you can work out the right one

Most libraries in the UK now have free access to Ancestry and sometimes Find MyPast - this could be very helpful to you. Herbert should hopefully show up on the 1939 register - but his children may not show names.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 26 Jul 2025 14:45

No record on any census for Herbert Peppiatt with his supposed occupation - not surprising as there is no recorded birth for the woman who married Royce

There is a Robert Royce, carpenter, on censuses, but he and his wife had only one child………a daughter.

What ages were given on the Robert & Jacqueline marriage certificates.

Fingers crossed that it doesn’t say Of Full Age?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 27 Jul 2025 14:28

PM received. Peter is indeed the ‘very elderly’ man. Not sure where that leaves me as I’m ten years his senior :-S :-S :-S

One has to wonder how he is so unaware of his parents’ backgrounds - it’s very strange that he doesn’t apparently even know where they were born

I asked Glenn to give the additional info from the marriage certificate…..on here

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 27 Jul 2025 15:29

I’ve had a pm too. I was hoping the ages on the certificate would differ, so to give us a wider date range. But it was 24 and 38. So no help.

It does seem strange that Peter doesn’t know where his parents were born. I am in the general age range and remember needing all sorts of information about my parents when applying for jobs.

As the marriage was 1948 it could mean that they met in the services and actually came from overseas, but that would make them staying in the UK odd. Maybe they changed their names.

This maybe one of those occasions where a dna test might help.

For interest - there was a Peppiat family in London in 1911 but I can’t link them to Herbert,

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 Jul 2025 16:31

Perhaps they were both adopted - or one adopted and the other born overseas - who knows?!

From one of Glenn's posts, it seems that Peter is most interested in his father.
I wonder if his parents separated when he was very young??

Perhaps "Clark" is the clue.

Glenn, ErikaH asked you how that name fits in.
Please will you explain?

Also, what was the groom's occupation in 1948?
And the couple's address(es)?
