You won’t find the passenger list as such unless you look for an actual name when passenger list will come up and you can look through

Was there names you are looking for ?

Those appear all to be incoming

As you have a specific date, one assumes you have a name?

Marked as answered - with NO feedback :-S :-S :-S

I'm not seeing that particular voyage on Ancestry.

Lots of other "Arundel Castle" voyages - but not that one.

Who gave you the info about a possible sailing?

Is there any documentary backup?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 20 Jun 2021 09:30

NO result for the woman’s name on FMP travel records

And no record of a sailing matching your info - as stated earlier

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 20 Jun 2021 11:38

Violet is a 'closed' record on 1939 register.

????Travelling in the opposite direction ??

[ But Violet McDonald isn't an uncommon name.]

Violet McDonald
in the UK and Ireland, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960
Name: Violet McDonald
Arrival Age: 23
Birth Date: abt 1924
Port of Departure: Cape Town, South Africa
Arrival Date: 14 Feb 1947
Port of Arrival: Southampton, England
Ports of Voyage: Batavia; Singapore and Colombo
Ship Name: Carnarvon Castle
Shipping Line: Union-Castle Coltd

Travelling alone.
Occupation: housewife.

Proposed address: 47 Park Crescent, Bannockburn, Stirling.

Where did your couple (or Ian's family ) live? Does that address sound possible?

They married in England:

Marriages Sep 1945
McDonald Ian Rainbird Ilford 4a 1219
Rainbird Violet E McDonald Ilford 4a 1219

Elizabeth Report 21 Jun 2021 02:13

First of all than k you for all that information
I got the information from their daughter

Violet was my sister in law and she recently died age 97. you are right about the marriage date
According to my niece they went to South Africa on the Arundel castle on the 10th Nov 1948 When they were in England they lived somewhere near London but when they were in South Africa they lived in Johannesburg I met them in 1955

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 21 Jun 2021 10:09

Hmmm - probably not the woman going to Stirling then.

But the fact remains, the passenger list for that particular voyage of the Arundel Castle is not online, unfortunately. (Nor any outgoing voyage)

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Jun 2021 10:36

There are passenger lists on FMP for many Arundel Castle sailings, but NOT for one the date to which you refer
If one inputs the year, departure port and destination country, with keyword 'Arundel' there are 5339 results, of whom 178 were born in 1924, but none for the names in question.

AG

The husband was Scottish, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for that incoming record to be relevant

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 21 Jun 2021 12:43

Yes, that's what I thought, ErikaH - then was put off by Elizabeth's info about living in London or SA - but of course could still be valid re Ian's family.

Elizabeth -

what was Ian's occupation?

Was his name perhaps really John, but he was known as Ian within the family?

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 22 Jun 2021 05:05

Ian as a carpenter by profession
name definitely Ian no middle name

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 22 Jun 2021 10:08

Oh well, it looks like we can disregard the plumber from Bannockburn .
