Am looking for information on Joseph A Lewis please, born appx 1922, but I don't know where. He married Audrey Evelyn Hippard in Dec qtr 1953 Hampstead, London. Vol 5c. Page 1416.

Its just really Joseph I am stuck on.

I don't need any information on Audrey, who on 28 June 1979 had married someone else in Arkansas,USA. ( Apart from where she and Joseph were between 1954 and 1979).

I know from the family that on 29th October 1954 they emigrated to Canada, I have the outgoing passenger list. Joseph is stated as 32 years of age, a draughtsman, and Audrey 21, a housewife. Their address in the UK on the form is 72 Fordwych Road, London.NW 2.

So, sometime between 1954 and 1979 Audrey had moved to the USA. Whether with or without Joseph, I don't know.

I have done my searches on GR,Family Search,FMP and Ancestry. I have looked for deaths, electoral registers etc and I cant find them either together or separately during this time.

I would just like to know, if possible, what happened to Joseph, IE did he die, did he re marry.

I appreciate I haven't got a lot of information to go on, but any help if at all possible would be really appreciated.

Quite a few siblings who may have info on what happened to them after they went to Canada

She married as Audrey Evelyn Lewis, "bond for marriage licence" and states both are either single, unmarried or may lawfully be married.

I did also check "White pages" there were a couple of Joseph A Lewis's aged 80plus, as he would now be or have been 98. Also googled him for an obituary. I found some entries but not enough to be sure its the right person.

Audrey was born 8th March 1933, MMN Martin. Volume 11a. Page 927. Pontypridd, Glamorganshire.

Other births but not for the London area which seems to be where they lived

Found her on the 1939 register, living at 19 Lewis Terrace,Rhondda, Glamorganshire, with her parents, Mark and Annie Maud Hippard.

The marriage only shows her as Hippard

No problem Shirley, going by the birth you gave me, I just found this death. If it is him and he died in 1977, she was free to re marry in 1979. Am now thinking he came back to the UK.

She remarried in 1986 as Audrey e hippard so guess there was a divorce

Yes, divorced Harold Jacen Thornton in 1983, Tarrent,Texas, then married again to Grady Leon Brake (1929 to 2013) in 1986 in Tarrent,Texas.

That's the correct 1939 Maddie, but mine reads Audrey E Hippard.

All the family members I have spoken to told me she went to Canada, no one has ever mentioned USA. I am wondering if she split with Joseph, he came back to the UK, and if that is his death in 1979, she maybe went to America and re married in 1979, because she married Thornton in the name of Audrey Lewis. I have a copy of the bond.

The 1977 death you posted doesn't record a second forename.

There is no Joseph Lewis on 1939 register with a DoB of 2nd Dec 1922

If you want to be certain of your info, a copy of the marriage cert would be a worthwhile investment.

You would then know his second forename and father's details (if he knew them)

Without knowing his second forename, I don't think you will get far

Unless this was an extremely late registration, this person (mentioned by Shirley) would have been 31 in October 1954 - not 32 - as, indeed, would the person whose death you found
