Am still stuck trying to put together the last little piece of this section of my family tree.
After your help last week I have managed to complete Catherine's family, and I thank you very much for that, but her father in law David Richards is proving a bit difficult, I thought I had him when I got the marriage certificate showing him living at 30 Barry Terrace (should be 30 Barry road). I have trawled through dozens of census's trying to place him and preferably with a wife, was hoping to find Thomas with them prior to Thomas's marriage in Dec 1900.

On the marriage certificate Catherine says she was living at 4 Sunny Bank, Blaenclydach.

Your help last week led me to another census (1901) for catherine's sister, Jane, still living at 4 Sunny Bank, with her Mother, and others, and I noticed on that at 8 Sunny Bank, David Richards, with wife Ellen and children,Henry, James and Elizabeth Ann.

Henry, James and Elizabeth Ann are the same names used by Thomas and Catherine to name some of their own children, and also with them being in the same Road, I thought again I had found Thomas's parents, and I do think it could well be them, but I can't prove it.

I tried looking for the mothers maiden name to see if it tied up with some possible marriages I found for David to Ellen Hodge 1864, Ellen Davies 1875 and Ellen Mathias 1877, but I don't know how to get the Mothers maiden name, maybe I am just not looking in the right place.

All I am wanting is to prove Davids wife and other siblings if there were any.

I am thinking it may be Eleanor Evans, that would tie in with the census that I think is them with David and Ellen at 8 Sunny Bank, if Elizabeth Ann and James's birth entries show mothers maiden name as Evans then I will be as sure as I can be that it the right marriage.

Thank you so very much, that's them. I will mark this as answered now, and I am really very grateful to you, thank you. I started out with nothing on this bit of the tree and now I have the full picture.

I know this thread was marked as answered but as it contains a little bit of information which is relevant to my query I thought I should continue with this thread.

Previously you helped me to find my GG Grandfather David Richards marriage to an Eleanor Evans. I ordered the marriage certificate and the date of the marriage was 13th Sept 1881. We was recorded as a widower.

There are 4 children, Thomas 1877(my Great Grandfather) Henry 1884, James 1887, and Elizabeth Ann 1886. MMN for all the children was Evans.

As he was a widower I am looking for a previous marriage and I think I have found her, a Martha Evans, Merthyr Tydfyll. Sept. qtr. 1870. 11a. page 516.

I have my Great Grandfathers(Thomas) birth certificate and the Mothers name is Martha Evans.

I am thinking that Thomas had a differant mother to the other 3 siblings, but by coincidence David married 2 ladies with the maiden surname of Evans. IE, a Martha and then an Eleanor.

Is it possible to view the marriage banns in the hope that they may contain further information so I can confirm the correct 1st wife, I have tried to look myself but not been able to find it.

If not, I will order the certificate.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Ok Maddie, thank you for looking for me. I couldnt see any either.

If David was a widower when he married in 1881, the subsequent children can't have the same mother as Thomas.

Yes I am thinking that Thomas's mother was Martha (in fact that is on his birth certificate) and the other 3 siblings belong to Eleanor. However, if I have the correct wives they both had maiden name of Evans. Not impossible as it is a common Welsh surname.

Thank you for the possible death entry, I did find a few for a Martha in Merthyr T, and yours would fit the time frame.

I will order certificates if I have to.

That looks very much like her, thank you very much. Died young !!!

You previously found (in this thread) Thomas living with his Grandparents at age 3, must have been when or shortly after she died.

Thank you, is there an address, trying to make out if this is a census or not.

Deborah

I am hoping this is going to be the 1871 census showing my GG Grandparents before my G Grandfather Thomas was born in 1877.

It was 76 Gadlys Road, Aberdare- Thank you.

I will order the marriage certificate for David and Martha as I am hoping it may help me find him in 1881.Martha died June qtr. 1878. He married Eleanor 13th Sep 1881 but the address for both of them just says Clydach Vale.

I have found him in 1871, 1891, and 1901, not sure yet when either David or Eleanor died yet.

At least, with your help, I have now sorted out his first wife Martha, thank you.

Deborah

Deborah Report 18 Jun 2019 12:42

Still can't find David on the 1881 census. By 1881 first wife Martha was deceased, and in Sept 1881 he married second wife Eleanor.

Any help please would be really appreciated.
