I have a family David Robb born c 1801 Fife, Scotland and Married Christian Lawrie or Laurie also b 1801 in 1826. They seem to have had six children between 1827and 1841, 5 of whom were alive in the 1851 census but they appear in no later Scottish Census. I suspect they emigrated. Can anyone more experienced than I look up emigration records please? The children were Catharine 1827, Christian 1832, David 1834, Thomas 1837 and Agnes 1841. Obviously there may be later children.

Thanks in advance. Malcolm.

Don't think so Mel. Agnes was born at Dysart. I think the actual birthplace in that document would be Strathkinness. It is possible that they could have split up as a family but i'm still hopeful they remained together and emigrated. Thanks.

THAT'S THEM! Well done Christina...another record for the GR community 25 minutes from question to solution.

It has always interested me how Christian became Christine. It seems that Christian nowadays is exclusively a boys name. I had expected Australia as a destination as many Fife people and other members of the family went there.

I must get up to speed on emigration resources.

Very many thanks!

Traveling with them was also David, age 20 a farm labourer - they were presbyterian.

Thanks FLIP. At the date of departure the two remaining daughters Catharine would be 26 or 27 and Christian 22 or 23 so I will work on marriages in Scotland for them unless any more Aussie info shows up.

Will have a look, think Thomas & David were in a different part of the ship - they are recorded together on another part of the manifest.

There is an extensive tree on Ancestry, with photos and documentation. Catherine did go to Australia, she married Robert Lawrie and died there in 1894. Think the passenger I posted is the right one.

Christina went to Australia, arriving 28/9/1854, married Jonathan Cason and she died in 1916 according the the tree (Lowe family tree) on Ancestry.

Re - Catherine - Thanks Flip. I'll pencil that in as highly probable but i'm a wee bit curious as to why she waited. Maybe seeing how the rest got on! Also interesting she maried someone called Lawrie. Incidenatally it seems her mothers surname was Laurie. As is often the case it appears differently on some documents but the childrens middle names clinch it.
