probably the only relevant post from that other thread re Joseph & Catherine's marriage

"he witnesses were James Cannon & Caroline Charlesworth

on the wedding certificate it has my gran was 20 but this doesn't add up as she was born in 1884
Joseph was killed in WW1 1917 aged 29 so his age does fit with the marriage certificate"

the age on the marriage certificate for Catherine fits with the census of 1911 so is more likely to be right than the age on the death certificate. The person registering the death may not have known her exact age and made a guess. It frequently happened.

Just looking at this again and realising I have found this info before :-(

Sylann, please stick to one thread only when you are looking at the same family or closely related people - It saves duplication of effort for everyone.

Got to go out

Back tomorrow I think I'm going to have to start again from Joseph 1888 & his brother John 1891

Make sure I have the right marriage for thomas and Sarah

Thank you

Sylann Report 23 May 2012 20:22

Those are the ones I've been going off

1901 their is a Joseph at a school for boys

But when joseph got married he put his fathers occupation down as farm labourer I supose being a chimney sweep got too much.

Found the copy of Joseph's WW1 buriel he died in 1917 aged 28 so his Date of birth would be about 1888

Yes that is the right one

The reason I say about the ages is my gran died in 1966 aged 83 which puts her date of birth 1883

Joseph's age could be right ??

I have that Joseph And John W Turner's mother remarried William Cannon in 1900

When I was looking for the marriage their was 2

I went for the one I did as the other Thomas was older

this is the other one

Thomas Turner 52 widower mill worker father Elias a weaver

married Sarah Davis 36 father Robert Labourer

This is my Maternal side and my grandfather was killed in WW1 so all i had to go on was his marriage certificate

Joseph Turner 20?? Bachelor Labourer in Iron Works father Thomas Turner Farm Labourer Deceased
Catherine Kelly 20?? Spinster father James Joseph Kelly Deceased labourer in iron works they married 5/8/1907 Chorlton registrar

In 1911 he had a brother john living with them

I think the ages for both of them were a bit out

Dea

Dea Report 23 May 2012 19:27

I have a very strong feeling that the marriage you have for Thomas to Sarah Price is the family I have posted from 1861 and so NOT the marriage that you want.

I will take a further look.

Hi Dea

Unfortunatly I haven't got the certificate !! I got this info when I'd just started doing my tree and I went to Manchester library and copied it

I've always had the feeling something wasn't quite right with the Tailor bit

My line follows their son Thomas 1859 who married Mary Ellen Crosby in 1878

Thomas Turner 19 Sawyer Father Thomas spinner of 8 nuns Sq Hulme
Mary Ellen Crosby 19 father Henry Crosby Chimney sweep WIT:- Joseph Turner 7 Mary ann Turner

Dea Report 23 May 2012 18:39

Can you have another look at that marriage cert please and see if Thomas's father Thomas could have been a 'Cordwainer' rather than a 'cord spinner ???

Dea x

Dea

Dea Report 23 May 2012 18:32

Which of their children connects down through to your family please?

Dea x

Dea

Dea Report 23 May 2012 18:31

Are you sure you have the correct ones on 1871??

On the marriage you have, Thomas is a Tailor but on 1871 he is a 'Cotton Spinner ??? - This is a bit of a 'step down' don't you think??, AND the wife's age is not right ??

The 61 census isn't them as they had Sarah ann, Mary Jane thomas & Joseph by then

I was wondering about the 51 census though as in the 71 Census their is a John Turner living a couple of houses away "Brothers" they did seem to live near each other in those days??

The only thing is he was supposed to be 25 in 1853 ?? not 19/20
