Find Ancestors

Married Harriet Cartwright in 1872 at Stafford, their son Walter Edwin was my grandfather born about 1879, their other child was Sarahborn about 1872 ( 1881 census).

Unable to locate George's father from census records etc. his mother was Sarah born 1814'ish. Although very new to Genes Reuinited I have suvccessfully traced maternal family tree back to 1500's but really struggling with the paternal (Knight) side.

Any assistance would be greatly appreictaed.

I don't seem to be having any luck finding her.

Image is actually 55 yrs making her c1816. I have corrected.

Yes I looked at this one too. Couldn't find William Knight in the 1851 in this area, so not impossible he moved! I have ancestors who moved the other way - from Shropshire down to Gloucestershire.

So, trying to narrow down the people in the above marriage index. Unfortunately 1841 doesn't give the place they were born only the county. All the women below were born in Gloucestershire.

Sarah A Merrett: husband Joseph; abt 1826; Berkeley; Wife; Berkeley, Gloucestershire (with an 11 mth old daughter) - probably Sarah Ann Cope who is living in Berkeley in 1841.
Helen Williams: husband George; abt 1825; Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England; Wife; Lydney, Gloucestershire (with one year old daughter and an Emma Jones visiting) - probably Helen Jones who is born Berkeley, and living in Berkeley in 1841.
Sarah Smith: husband George; abt 1826; Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England; Wife; Ham, Gloucestershire (with one year old daughter) - probably Sarah Wetmore who is aged 26 and living in Berkeley in 1841.


Notice that all these women have only one child who is about 11-12 months old, suggesting they've only been married about 2 years.

The silly thing is that I actually live in Berkeley and forgot about Scribes Alcove! I believe it is called 'information overload'!

EDIT

Possible death of William? There were several of them in Berkeley but I couldn't find a baptism with the father also named William.

45 years at death in 1878 makes him born c1833. That would make him 20 years younger than Sarah. Not impossible but he's supposed to be full age at marriage in 1849.
