I wonder if John on the marriage certificate was just a mistake on Hepzibah's part????

That is not unknown!

In 1881, the Lonsdales ' street address is Happy Land, Ossett cum Gawthorpe

In 1871, it is Benton Street, Ossett with Gawthorpe

I cannot find any other Hepzibah than this one with father George

Henry's name is Austick on the 1901 and 1911 censuses. The 1911 Census was of course filled out by him ....... although he did sign as Henry Austwick !

Thank you Sylvia for your reply. As you can see i am still on the trail of Phillis Austwick.I went for the birth certificate for James Herbert Austwick and there wasnt one so i asked for Herbert Austwick. It says Herbert Austwick b. 1857 Wakefield mother Phillis Austwick living Westgate Common Alverthorpe. On his first marriage to Annice Land/Laud he is James Herbert and on his second marriage he is Herbert so it looks like he was born in Wakefield .I am going down the Lonsdale route now to see if that comes up with anything.I traced Sarah Ann Ivason and Clara Ivason daughters of Phillis and Thomas .I even emailed the grandson of Clara and he had never heard of a Sarah Ann in 1891 they are living on the same St as each other. and so is Thomas Ivason[Phillis is dead]Thank you again for your help.

Lexie & Sylvia,

I have also been trying to research Hephzibah (my g/g/grandmother) & have come to a halt after noting her father's name as John on her marriage cert.
I will also be trying to investigate the Lonsdale trail & the alternative parental names in the next few days so will report on anything that I come up with.

Sorry I can't be very helpful just yet.

Claire
