Find Ancestors

Hi there,

My ancestors, John Smitheringale and Elizabeth Vickers married in Spalding, Lincolnshire in November 1832.

Interestingly, their origional marriage certificate has reference to Elizabeth's father Richard Vickers and his consent to the marriage as she was under 21. There are other notes, but the copy I recieved from Lincolnshire record office, is not great.

However, I suspect Elizabeth's parents to be Richard Vickers and his wife Elizabeth Petchel.

Now, the witnesses to the marriage are Frederick and Sophia Petchel, and I would like to know who they are. Can someone help me please? I think they could be cousins but I don't know and finding out about them would help me whilst searching for Elizabeth Petchel's family.

Oh wow, Flick; thank you! Wow, what was Frederick's imprisonment for?

And, where is Frederick's place of birth? Then I will look for a baptism. I suspect his father was a brother of Elizabeth Petchel.

To find out what he was in prison for requires a more expensive Ancestry sub than that which I can afford

However, I can't find a relevent marriage for Frederick and Sophia, and one thought, would this Sophia Petchel (nee Smith) be too young to be a witness at the marriage in 1832?

Frederick was imprisoned for "fely (feloniously ) stabbing with intent to do bodily harm"

Wow, Frederick was accused of stabbing someone - awful!

I have difficulty finding his baptism. I appreciate all of this help on his family, and please keep it coming if possible! But, I would love to find his parents ... would I have to contact Northamptonshire Record Office for this, as it doesn't seem to appeare on the IGI.
