Hi

Trying to find any records relating to a Lethbridge (Female), mother of John Barnes (b.Jul 1913) and Madeline Barnes (b. 1920).

Married a Barnes (Father), likely in Prescot, St. Helens, Wigan area's in Lancashire.

I need to find any records that will allow me to know what the first names are of Lethbridge and Barnes who had the two above mentioned children.

Probably married before 1912, which makes searching a little tricky.

Wonder if she lied about her age? On the image it looks more like 21

According to hs army records on Ancestry, James parents were Stephen and Margaret. He had a brother John and a sister Margaret, but I cannot seem to find them anywhere !!!

I just don't know Flip,

I looked at that one also so I went back to look at the army records.

They certainly do say 'Stephen'.......... BUT I can find no trace of him anywhere !!!

The only thing to do would be to get James birth cert which I believe is this one:

That would give both mother's and father's details.

Another alternative, Stephen may have been his stepfathers name - there's this marriage at Prescot reg office:

according to Lancashirebmd it was also recorded as Margaret Wilson, so I would assume she was a widow.

Ahhh! - Now we may be getting somewhere Flip !!

One of the witnesses to James's wedding was a Louisa Wilson (though it is a very common name) - I have followed her a little way but decided that she was the wife of a friend of James who works in the same trade as him ! - I will explore further!

Dea, you're on the right track. Louisa was married to James Wilson on the 1911 census - James Wilson(c1882) was at the same address as James Barnes on the 1891 census - 27 Gerard Street.

Not sure about that birth posted for James Barnes - he had an older brother John on the 1891 census, but he wasn't on the 1881 census.

James (28, labourer) & Margaret(19) were at 65 Victoria St, St Helens, parish Windle, in 1881 with no children.

The Wilsons were at 4 Lord St, Windle, and must have come over from Ireland after 1876, their earlier children were born Ireland. I wonder if Margaret Barnes was their daughter?

going back to the Lethbridges of Jax's 1901 census. I can only see 1 Charlotte Lethbridge birth ion freebmd (sep qtr 1886) which matching this baptism BUT the mother's name is Elizabeth!

It looks to me like after John's wife died, he took up with Ann who was probably some rellie of Elizabeth, maybe a sister or cousin.
Sarah Ann was Ann's daur, named after a predeceased half-sister.
It looks like John & Ann didn't marry, and possibly this is the reason for apparent uncertainty about Ann's surname when she marries Frank.
(If Ann were Eliz's sister, John could not legally marry her at this time.)
